I like the smart for what it represents...but I don't actually like it.
I dig his mustang, but as I said, I'd do it a bit differently.

What doesnt make sense to me about Smart is that its billed as being financially friendly. Then they tell you it requires premium. WTF?

premium is better though. period. more power for less gas. anything with over 9.5:1 compression will yield better mpgs with higher octane, and make up the cost of it vs 87

the only people who will tell you otherwise, are domestic guys with trucks or completely non performance econobox's. because those are meant to be owned by "cheap-o's" and they want to avoid the warranty work from said cheap asses..

But thats not what the buying public sees. They just see that it takes gas thats ~25 cents more a gallon then what their 23 year old Hyundai takes. They fail to realize that that difference only equates to ~$130 a year assuming they fill up once a week.

I did tests before when I had my maxima, and I would end up saving $7 every 18.gallon tank

I was basing my numbers on very general numbers - 10 gallons once a week over 52 weeks, same gas mileage in both cars, 25 cent difference = $130 a year. Thats not taking into account the mileage hit you'd take if you were to run 87 octane on a car that required 93 octane (since, as you said before, 87 has less energy), in which case the difference would be less depending on the car.

That sucks that you have to deal with a 40 cent difference between 87 and 93.

Im looking at what I've spent on the FR-S thus far:

472.57 gallons
$1,724.88

Keeping the same 25 cent difference, I would have saved $118.13 if I could run 87. While it's not exactly chump change, its not a huge difference IMO.

No no no. I'd save $7 paying up for premium because of the mileage gains I saw.
