Have some bad news.. my TL was involved in accident about 2 weeks ago.
My sister had a headache and her friend was driving the TL. He was making a left turn and got hit in the rear by oncoming traffic going straight.
The person who hit her was speeding to make the light. He was also a firefighter.. according to my sister's story, he called the local fire dept and reported an oil spill. The firetrucks came, made a scene, cops came.. didn't really fill out a police report, and my sister didn't even get the driver's info. An hour later, he files a claim against me. He was also Geico insured. So next thing you know he pulls a "witness" out of no where and the 2 stories don't match up. Next thing you know, my sister is 80% at fault. But because of traffic laws.. he had right of way and he was only 20% at fault because he hit my rear. I'm not too happy about it but my sister is fine so I can't get too mad.
Anyway.. the adjuster saw the car on Friday and said it was a total loss. Now they're going to either cut me a check for a little over $8k for the TL(car is an 05 TL, 5AT, WDP/Beige with Navi @ ~164K miles) or let me keep the TL and give me a smaller check. Not sure what the smaller amount would be but I'll find out tomorrow after I call the adjuster back.
Not sure if I want to keep the TL or just take the check.. either way, my sister will need a car. Part of me doesn't want to let the TL go because it was my first car and I took real good care of it.

I would suggest taking the 8K and take some parts off the car and make a little more off it...

The more I replay the way the story went down, the more I think that we're being a little quick to side with your sister's friend. The assumption that the guy was speeding is probably hard to prove, he may or may not have been trying to make the light, or get across before the yellow...but in instances like that, a good driver in the TL would be paying enough attention to realize that they are not slowing down before pulling out.
If he didn't notice the truck trying to make the light, it's kinda his fault, if he did notice it and pulled out in a car that isn't his/hers and didn't know the pick up on it and wasn't able to accelerate fast enough, that's kinda dumb.
On the plus side, at least in Florida, whoever does the hitting is normally at fault.
Situation sucks, and that's no knock on your sister...but I feel like her and her friend had probably decided to appeal to your brotherly side and paint a picture like they were innocent...especially given that you just got the car back from the body shop from the last incident.

On the plus-plus side, here in Santo Domingo whoever does the hitting is usually the one landing all the punches in the fight between the two, to run away before the cops come and join the fight.

I hope it works out, man.
Hey...she was turning onto a LIE ()
Honestly...my assessment still kinda stands...I think in an instance like that, oncoming traffic still has right of way IF the light was still yellow for the truck and he didn't run the red and assuming he was going the speed limit (more or less). Poor judgment on her friend's part though, still...better to have waited for the green arrow.
Good luck Arthur, I really hope it is fixable. If not, Majofo will straighten your rear right up.

Yeah, I agree with you. If there's already traffic, you're better off just waiting until it clears up. The friend is going to be paying back my deductible along with some cash on top.
My dealer buddy who's fixing up my car picked up an E46 M3 that needs some cosmetic repairs apparently (quarter panel and fender). Of course, as a car enthusiast I asked him about the car.. the only problem is that has that damn SMG tranny.
Had it been a 6MT, I probably would've thought about trading the TL in for it then getting it painted in the Estoril Blue

When I was in the market for the S2000...I had a friend selling his well maintained 6MT 2004 E46 M3 in black with 19" staggered Image Dynamics wheels. I should have jumped on that but he steered me away from it. He said that as much as he loved it and babied it, he didn't feel right selling it to me. He is an engineer that does his own car work and gets the BMW parts at cost and he said that for every hour he spent enjoying driving it, he spent 2 fixing it.
That's what's always kept me from pulling the trigger...with Honda, you can beat on it and seldom need to repair anything or ever get stranded. The maintenance I do is just for good measure.

Plus that's what steered my family away for years from BMW. Everyone we know that owns one say it's a blast to drive but a the end of your day of fun you'll eventually have to go the garage to fix something. I say that if you're looking into getting a BMW it has to be CPO and wish for best.

I had a BMW 335 6MT for about a year and loved every moment with it but I had to sell it because I moved to the city. I'm not going to lie.. I think my next ride may be still be a BMW. Eyeing the new F30 335s in a 6MT. I'll wait until they drop in price.. hopefully by that time I'll get all of this city-living/partying out of system and could move to one of the outer-boroughs.
But on the side-note.. I would love to own an S2K one day

me too...
LOL...I have heard the same, and I guess if it was going to be my 2nd car, I could have dealt with the down time. It was the money pit that turned me off...I'm sure pretty new CPO you won't have issues...but over 100K and 10 years later, I'd be leery.
