xlr8 resonated or non-resonated?

After reading a bunch of threads on exhausts, I'm leaning towards getting the xlr8 exhaust for my 05 tl. I'm having some trouble deciding whether or not to get the resonated or non-resonated version. I've checked some youtube clips and they pretty much sound the same to me...could just be my speakers. Any suggestions?? Anyone who has an xlr8 exhaust or had experiance with it your advice would be great

It depends on what other exhaust mods you have or are planning on doing. There is a thread on here about non resonated xlr8 exhaust with precat deletes and a j-pipe iirc. And the owner said it drones like crazy. I wouldn't spend the money on a exhaust because imo they don't do much for performance but if I did I would go resonated. Don't want to sound ricey.

I just got the XLR8 quad exhaust on my 07 TL-S

I really like it you will get some drone around 2200rpm on the FWY but its exhaust I dont think your ever going to get a "louder" exhaust on the outside without you being able to hear it on the inside.

Overall a great quality exhaust and sounds awesome especially when you get it up into the RPM.

Just a heads up, we're working on some new muffler technology to eliminate the droning issues. We'll have a new thread posted within a week.

I would definitely get the resonated one. Its not too bad inside, apart from the drone, but its SUPER loud on the outside. It sounds good from the outside though. But inside I can't hear it over the supercharger whine.

I've got the NON-RES version and it is loud, inside and out. I wouldn't say it is drone, the loud is from the back end. But let me tell you, when I go to the casino, the Valet's fight to see who will drive it, and I can hear it coming back when we leave. My girl has been in the shop all week and been driving a 4G TL Tech which is a wonderful car, but I miss the XLR8!

My only concearn is that I don't want it to sound too ricey...that's the only reason why I'm hesitant with the non-resonated. My hesitation with the resonated one is that it may not be loud enough lol

haha, my first ever exhaust mod so I'm tryin to figure it all out. a side question, don't mean to go off track, but if I put in a jpipe and test pipe will i fail emissions? or is that only if i do a pre cat delete?

One thing this exhaust is NOT - is ricey. Probably the best sound around.
CAI + XLR8 NON-RES= SEXXXY!

Yea not ricey great sound i just drove it 2.5 hours south this weekend to san diego and then back after the NY... most of the time i forgot about the drone my radio was on a few times mainly at around 2K-2500 RPM with load on the engine going up a grade thats when I heard a noticeable drone that if it always sounded like that would be annoying but I can deal with that since its mainly under load going up hills

I've always wanted to do the j-pipe and test pipe, always thought I'd fail emissions if I did, thanks for the info I think I'm definately leaning towards the resonated xlr8 exhaust w/ xlr8 j-pipe and test pipe

You definately can't go wrong with the XLR8 exhaust! I have RV6 PCD's==>ATLP J-pipe==>ATLP Hi-flow 3rd cat==>Resonated XLR8 exhaust and everyone that has ever heard my car loves the sound. It will take some getting used to from stock, because it's a lot louder (after you open everything up)!!!

Yes, resonators are like small mufflers. They don't filter emissions; they just muffle sound.

well, i have the resonated version along with atlp j pipe and test pipe, and AEM v2 CAI, as some of members say here the drone gets pretty bad at some point, like mine around 15k rpm, so when i have my kids in my car i'd switch to manual and keep it at around 3k rpm to avoid the drone lol now i am thinking about getting the high flow cat to see if it'll reduce the drone...
