What is next? Need power... $1,500

Hey guys - TL is a 6MT 05 daily driver... I put about 20K on her per year while my 500+hp Viper GTS sits in the garage for fair weather days. I want a little more power... I have a custom Turbo Trix CAI, ASPEC 18's, Slotted and cross drilled rotors, Tsudo SS exhaust, Comptech 24mm rear sway, Poly greaseable busihings, I'm going to be lowering the car soon with Eibach Pro kit that's been collecting dust for a while.... Looking for a little more POWER for the daily drive while retaining reliability... is there any suggestions for about $1K to 1.5K?? or should I just stick with what I got.

Jpipe, Precat Deletes/High flow cat.

Do a search for these things in this subforum and you will find yourself with a wealth of knowledge.

pics of your viper, please!

with that being said, you probably dont care for emissions.
grab the PCD's from RV6.
These pre-cat-deletes replaces your cats with straight pipes.
about $465, i think.

then grab the RV6 v3 Jpipe. $470.

then you'll want a light weight pulley. $120 i believe.

i would then get the Engine Torque Damper. around $120

also you could lighten your ride by taking out weights and anchors.

I'm 6MT and have the PCDs and jpipe.
stock horsepower for a 6MT is about 220.

I dyno'd and am at 240hp to the front wheels.

with your cat back it should be at about 245-255.

Exhaust stuff makes a significant change in these cars, probably more than anything else short of a supercharger.

Catback plus RV3 V3 J pipe plus RV6 PCD equals 40whp or so.

Find a used exhaust in the BM and then visit RV6 site for the combo. Should be about $1500 or less

The biggest bang short of a SC is the hi flow or deleted cats. The TL uses very restrictive cats to get the smog status it has, removing those or getting hi flow versions ( about twice as much $$$) will add around 20 HP. Free up the rest of the exhaust ( j pipe,3rd cat delete) and you should net another 15-20 HP. Most other power mods are big $$ small power increase like underdrive pulley, Pnp intake and TB heat spacer.

I have the PCD's, the RV6 J-pipe and an XLR8 exhaust and the gains were very noticeable, especially in the 60MPH-100MPH range. I have the 5AT transmission though. All of this is on my 2008 TL Type-S 3.5L which supposedly has 286HP from the factory. I'm wondering if I've hit over 300HP now.

I do have one question though. If I keep my PCD's, the RV6 J-pipe as well as the mid-muffler delete and replace the XLR8 mufflers with the stock muffler setup (the part from the mid-muffler back for both setups) am I going to lose a huge amount of HP? The XLR8 exhaust is very loud but I'm don't want to lose 10HP or so if I put the stock mufflers back on. The squished 2.5" tubing which splits into the smaller tubing is quite small indeed. I don't know that if between this and the mufflers if I'm looking at serious restriction.

Any ideas on HP loss?

Basically I have a half-ass cat back setup if I put the stock muffler back on. It'll go from the PCD's to the RV6 V3 J-pipe with 3rd cat delete to 2.5" tubing all the way back to where it splits off into the stock mufflers. Again, no mid muffler of course.

that viper is pure sex ...

PCD, J-PIPE, best bang for your buck. both mods together will probably give you another ~20-35whp

I see you have the Tsudo. I've got the same catback but I also have the RV6 High Flow Pre-cats and the RV6 Jpipe, the combo of all three is a Beautiful sound. Not too much when normal driving, but nice when you romp on it. I will FINALLY try to get a good couple videos, but I will say that the car gets nothing but compliments on the exhaust sound.
And of course I will also say to you, NICE CARS!!

OP i know the trend is towards the jpipe + pcd's but there is what i would do:

1> Get a KNN air filter and delete the intake resonator($50)
2> Get moores performance TB spacer ($50)
3> Get coolant bypass ($0)
4> Get your manifold and runners ported and polished (~$350)
5> Get your TB bored out ($100)
6> Get P2R thermal spacers for TB and Manifold ($100)
7> Get a lightweight UR Crank pulley ($250)
8> Get PCD's ($400)
9> Get Engine mounts ($250)
10> UCM (Ultimate cooling Mod) ($0)

Thats like $1550....

Next you need to get a jpipe and exhaust and you will be good to go....Jpipe + Exhaust is usually $1500+ itself....

Really? I drive my TL 20K miles a year and nearly everyday just like you guys do. The Viper is a toy, I drove it less than 2K in the last year. I like to have a little fun every day

I must say the TL is one of my favorite cars ever owned, it is a very well rounded machine.

OK... So here is what I am thinking for starters.

1) J Pipe
2) PCD's
3) Pulley

My question is... Is the car going to be really loud with PCD mod and J pipe with the catback... I am still looking for a certain level of driveability.

Thanks for all the comments and discussion for mods.

Half of this, actually most of this list is useless. K'n filter is not going to do that much, even intakes won't. Tb spacers hurt performance (read on a thread from someone reputable, think it was IHC), coolant by pass, maybe. This isn't like a civic where people port and polish their manifolds without running more serious supporting mods. Motor mounts? How does that help in performance wise for the money ratio, tad less wheel hop?

Honestly op just get the jpipe and pcd, there's a trend because it works for so many, I just ordered mine.

The ultimate cooling mod is the cutting of your window grills, do a search on it.

Here's part of my support:

This is however not true with a Tl which isnt a total free flow exhaust w/no work done... as the low end gain would not yield a severe loss in top end. For this reason, the spacer will be coming off of my car when these PnP'd parts go on. These guys know their stuff and play with the J32 ALL DAY on their own Dyno so ill trust that over spending double the amount on 2 separate dyno sessions.

With the jpipe and pcd's your just opening up the restrictions in your exhaust and NOT making any new power....the ECU keeps your AFR constant, the more air the more fuel the more power you MAKE....the only reason I wrote until the PCD's is coz its keeps your exhaust options open....I went true dual and if you get the jpipe, your closing that option...I would suggest you do intake side mods and then exhaust side mods....just my

so you just read what people say and do not research ?...I am fully bolted in and looking into PnP-ing internals/cams/pistons/springs/retainers/etc so dont write checks your ass cant cash

so you just read what people say and do not research ?...I am fully bolted in and looking into PnP-ing internals/cams/pistons/springs/retainers/etc so dont write checks your ass cant cash

you just read something and started spreading it around....we are talking about 2 different parts....I mentioned about Moores Performance spacer which is like a P2R TB spacer only wider (1" as compared to 3/4" and a 70mm wide diameter as compared to 65mm)...the part Andy (Gerzand) is mentioning is the MDX spacer and I didnt put that in the list as I still have to dyno with and without the spacer to spread the news "ohhh get a spacer, its awesome"....
