Wannabe GReddys

well, im a little tight on money right now cuz i had to pay for college tuition/ dorms etc. but i want to do aftermarket exhaust that LOOKS ALMOST EXACTLY like GREDDYS. so, big tips, nice deep sound...maybe not as loud, like the silent, humble roar of a G35 coupe...but louder so that people will notice i have exhaust even during non-aggressive driving.

many people told me to go with Borla mufflers and some FAT CAN tips

i just need some help and suggestions cuz i dont want to spend 800 on GReddys + silencers or resonators to tune the drone down a bit (parents would KILL ME)

thanks, all your help is appreciated

OH, and bolt on plz...(if it is possible...im a newb)

Magnaflow or Borla mufflers would have a nice sound. I'd go for Borla myself. Should be pretty low sounding and not TOO loud. I'd stay away from any individual canisters if you dont want something as loud as the Greddy.

I'm assuming you don't want your parents to acknowledge that you have an aftermarket exhaust right? However, you want people to notice that you have an aftermarket exhaust.. ugh..

Anyways, I think you can get the Greddys set up for around 500.

?!?!?!?!

The evo2 for 500? Or do you mean custom fab'd to be like the greddy setup for 500. B/c the cheapest I know that you can get the evo2 for is like 800 bucks.

Word ----> 500?!? Never seen this but once and it was used. It was a rare find in the BM.

I'd say talk to Stillhere153 about skunk2 canisters. He had a setup with some Skunk2 mufflers a while back that he got rid of for an Evo2. He had done something with the resonators and what not. PM him or I'm sure he'll chime in on this thread in a little while or so.

If a buyer doesn't hurry the hell up and scoop my Evo2 I'll let it go for what I paid and shipping. Holla at me. I've turned another direction and going w a type-s BBE Exhaust.

$711 + ship

The Greddy will quiet down after 1-2months of use. I noticed my Greddy has quiet down after 1.5month of use. It sounds really nice now!!! I would highly recommend you getting the Greddy over the Borla. For a bit more $$$ it is worth it!!

From a 1 to 10 first engine startup (cold startup)... 10
From a 1 to 10 rolling windows down high 8

Post break in period low 6 with the occasional drone radio at volume 5 takes care of it

Ps. Post jpipe... Mid 5

also i saw on a thread that someone made the GReddys into a hybrid by changing the piping to reduce the noise. 10 is way too loud lol. i was looking for 8-9 on startup, 6-7 with windows up...this would be with stock exhaust being like 3-4.

how much would it cost to do the hybrid.

ok the hybrid if you would consists of cutting the stock exhaust and leaving the greddy untouched... it requires you to run pretty much a large stock portion followed by a 2bolt flange and then the rear section of the greddy catback... it shuts things down nicely, but also creates unnecessary restrition

my solution to the guys who didn't like the noise was to install an aero resonator (aero25)...

ps. the greddy on cold starts sets off car alarms withing 25 foot radius... I work nights... everyone knows what time I leave for work

HAHAHA THAT IS SICK! if my parents didnt mind...i would def keep them the way they are.

well, since that isnt an option...how much does that cost to get an aero resonator and how much noise does it reduce. i just want mine louder than a G35...same deep roar tho. and at PEDAL TO THE METAL, i want it to be really loud. just not too much low rpm sound.

Hybrid will cost you about $75-$100 if you use the stock straight-pipe and don't get raped by a muffler place.... StillHere is correct, it shuts off all the drone and mutes the sound a bit, but it does create some restriction so the HP gain (however little) is a bit lessened as well. But it still sounds unbelievable in the higher RPMs...

since you're pretty much in a nicely populated area, i'd go find a nice welding place and just do the resonator delete get some magnaflows, get a y-pipe, and just use the stock tips... if the guy does a good job, it'll sound right around what you're looking for.

if the guy does a superb job, aka redo ALL your piping (what happened to me) it might be a little louder than what you want, but it'd also be one helluva setup lol.

I tested my setup with a friends G35, and granted it was kind of biased since we were inside a garage (gf stepped on the pedal for me, while friend did his), with my setup it def sounded alot better than the G35.

the VQ35 stock exhausts are too pinched imo,

but anyway back to topic

2.5" piping, resonator delete, y pipe, magnaflow mufflers, stock tips all done at once would probably run you about $300-400, and buying those parts yourself is about $200-ish, i was so lucky and the guy just redid all the piping starting from my downpipe+catdelete all the way to the tips for $450 (ss pipe)

^ kinda pricey... shops over here do it for like $100 if you are just doing tubing and not adding anything... I paid like $40 for the stage 3 mod last summer

wow /slap dude you're in NY....of course i could've found ppl to do it even cheaper....

ok this guy charges about 80/hour; it nearly took him from 9:30AM till 6:30PM to get my setup done.
(That day I had RichieV6 j pipe, test pipe and RSB done). after that he laid out all the pieces and had to plan and flange a bunch of pieces as he slowly worked down to the mufflers. and let's not forget our lil fiasco where PerformanceCenter messed up and one of my mufflers was the wrong size (of course the one I open and check is the CORRECT one, the one my guy opens was the one i opened; and we just assume since it's in the same box and sealed tightly that it's the same part)

but anyway let's just say he charges 80/hr, 10-6 is already more than i paid for. Not including the fact that he also supplied me all the piping, and made sure that everything was done perfectly, and in the end, i more or less came out with a catback system (assuming my magnaflows are a better flowing muffler than stock)

so i mean could i have gotten a better price? only if i were in NY.
most people will pay more than i did for all that i did in a day? yea, probably.

is this a cost efficient way of getting what the OP wants instead of buying a full setup from a name brand company? probably yes.

DO i hate stillhere for getting s/c'd before me? absolutely

^ ur hilarious... and he flanged out ur full catback... damn nice, did he use prebent mandrel pieces too, that sounds like a real legit job so now I see where the labor cost went...

you are at work aren't you. lol

and yea he used prebent mandrel pieces, the longer i've had the system, the happier i am with it. It was a bit too throaty when there wasnt soot, ash, dust, gunk in the pipes, but now it's JUST perfect, minus the slight drone from 2k-3k rpm

ok, now you are just driving me crazy hahah. so many options to choose from, now i cant make up my mind. well, i kinda want fart cans on my car so if i do stage 3, it'll just be like 200 more right? or wrong . but then the price would just be creeping up on the price of GReddys...

my head hurts

To do an exhaust mod, a good one, will cost a bunch of money. To have custom setup does creep up upon the price of an Evo2, a used one for say the price that stillhere153 is asking or will be asking sometime soon. I have been looking to do an exhaust mod myself for a long time now and everytime I calculate everything together, it comes out to be about 500+ dollars. I am currently on the stage 3 exhaust and still looking to upgrade but until the price is right, I will not do so. Think about it...

Why not just pay the money for the Greddy.

Damn, I just noticed that most shops raised the price of greddy's to 945 when they used to be 799. Anyone know any place that still has it at 799?

you dont HAVE to swap out your j-pipe. that's a more performance oriented gain, with a lil extra for sound.

to be honest, for a cheap job, (simply for sound) just cut it after resonator; attach ypipe and piping to back with cut tips.

the price only escalates alot when you add other factors into the equation, like performance.

sure in the end my setup cost me $600 (shipping lol was probably the most cost inefficient)...and if i just sat around and saved another 300 back then i could have the greddy's, but i wanted the stock tips, that was the most important factor. After that I focused on the performance, hence the guy i went to (you saw my thread, he did a kick ass job with his welding and parts)...

small amount of piping, 2 mufflers, y pipe and then labor to weld + cut tips then reweld is a pretty cheap alternative.

I know you can keep the stock J Pipe for just sound. But, I figured I should just put it on the list of options.

I'm about to search for your thread again...

haha yea i know you knew, it was more for simplifying this thread and emphasizing the cost differences....throwing in the Jpipe, 3rd cat delete/straight pipe and then everything else increases everything significantly

OH wow dude i just realized...you're the same guy from around Flushing that wanted to hear my setup after i had it done! LOL

imo you're out in NYC, get some of the TSV peeps to point you to a really good welder and get this done if you really wanted to keep the stock tips like me! i promise you won't regret it.

I'll post some more clips on that very random AZ myspace page i made, after i've gotten the car buffed out and repaired (still have that bumper/front plate indent from months ago, and recently some ppl decided they wanted to jimmy my window, failed and just scratched it up pretty bad and basically ruined front passenger side door trim and some light keying)

pending dyno too (never got around to getting a post dyno readout)

Yeah, I still want to hear that setup. Al knows a good welding spot out in the Bronx and that's where I got my stage 3 done last summer. It's not enough though so I want more. I really want quad tips and have been trying to figure out a way to custom fab the setup on an 06 bumper. The opening is small but Tripnbeats put a type-S exhaust on his with some minor cutting and I think I might just do that. Maybe I could get a nice set of tips, some Magnaflow mufflers and have them welded on? Would I have to get rid of my stage 3 for this? And would I need a Y-Pipe?

OP, sorry for the thread hijack.

really depends how anal you are about performance loss, and at this point it's just relative fact vs negligible loss.

You can just chop it up even more keep your aznbo stage3 and (yes get the ypipe it slightly modifies the sound, and will make your welder's job alot easier) just get w/e tips you want customized for your rear OR cut your stock ones.

Me on the other hand didnt want to have the THOUGHT of power loss due to jagged edges along the exhaust piping, so i basically had Stage 3 redone all over again and just kept my dynomax resonator (well my welder said i should also keep it so i dont get the "put put" sound or something, specifically related to not enough back pressure)

I noticed that... weaponspeed.com currently has the best price... they ship free, but they take forever to ship... so expect like a 1.5 week wait which isn't too bad concidering you get 100+ off
