Question Voltage Stabilizer Circuit?

So, has anyone taken apart one of the $100 or so "voltage stabilizers" to see what makes them tick. Are they anything more than a series of capacitors? What would prevent us from "rolling our own"?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks,
Steve

for tl the TL, these are junk, for cars that have more of a strain on the electrical system like the 4cyl accord and tsx, it would be better. I think it's just a stupid battery inside that takes up the sudden jolt when the a/c or bass hits, kinda like a capacitor. For the TL, adding more ground wires will be cheaper and better.

Yeah, I'm going to do the grounding, looked at battery cables today - 4 gauge from about 1.5 to 3 feet run from about $4.50 to $7.00. MUCH less than buy a kit. I just need to figure out what lengths I want and how many.

Anyone with more info?

Anyone dare to crack open their voltage stabilizer and tell me what's in it?

I've done some searches on the web and found only a couple of DIY circuits. These are really 'low pass filters' (which may be all the high cost boxes are) which see to filter out AC 'noise' from the vehicle's power. These are easily constructed with a series of capacitors.

If I get ambitious, I may put my oscilloscope on my TL to see just how much noise/ripple there really is on the 12v supply.

As far as the need to filter out the ripple, a quick 'net search will show articles stating how power supply ripple can wreak havoc on digital circuits. I would expect the Acura engineers to have addressed this at critical spots, but the ideal situation is to have as close to pure DC as possible.

Any EEs reading this and having comments??? Please post replies!

Thanks!
Steve
