I am noticing sound from the pulley like a very slight whine when I start to rev high.

Is the normal, is it the new belt, WTF could cause this or does the new pulley make a slight sound?

 

Could need to be torqued to the proper specs

 

What are they, so i can make sure

 

Strange....I never heard any strange sounds at all on mine back when I put it on. Are you sure its just not the sound of a new belt breaking in?

 

i kno this is off topic but how much does a crank pulley help? and is it worth it?

 

It helps quite a bit really. Response it somewhat more zippy with the pulley as it is lighter and yes....its definately worth it as its only like $175 or so for the pulley.

 

read what I first said the pulley is awesome. In the low end the cars revs much faster and has more torque noticable right after I installed. As well because you don't have all that dead wieght pushing the revs down my shifts have been sooo much smoother.

For the price its by far more then worth it.

What method did you or your installer use to get the the stock one off?

Also you never let me know what the new belt cost you if you want me to reembursed you if you send me the one I sent to you.

 

How is it installing it, do u need a professional or an easy DIY like a CAI??

 

i had mine done this past Saturday, the difference is VERY noticeable. It took about two hours to get mine off, and a torch was needed. i would suggest having a professional do the work.

 

i have a MT so i believe it was a lot easier the guy just needed a large torque wrench and the bolt was off that was it.

Still am concerned about the noise however and doesnt seem like anyone has any ideas. Shitty belt? What if the belt is one size bigger then the recommended size still fits tight? I dunno im gonna search else where

 

a 20 dollar tool from kragen makes it much easier to remove the old pully
its 181 foot pounds iirc
there is a way to go to 60 ft lb then extra degrees of rotation on the bolt to get same spec- if you dont own a giant torque wrench
Easy job for shop with a lift- worth having them do for many ziners

 

the tool is the best way to get it off... I got mine off in 15mins with the tool... broke 1 extension tho (thank god for lifetime warranty)

 

going to go by the shop and talk to the guy at lunch, see how much tq he used to bolt the new pulley on

I don't know WTF to do. I had the belt changed to the correct size and the sound is still there, I swear the guy that installed the pulley probably fucked something up. I was told that it was the alternator making the sound and that it is normal?!? How the F*uck is it normal if I never heard it before.

So I done know what to do. Should I put the stock pulley on and go to the dealership or what?

 

Did you perhaps install an UNDERDRIVE pulley? If so...some things may not sound the same. You are underdriving the periphrials and the TL takes a lot of juice if you have the Navi model.

 

There may have been a price increase since I ordered mine long ago. I had an underdrive and a normal sized lightweight (for supercharger aps) UR Pulley both and as I recall it was like $175 back then. Talk to excelerate on here....he has them in stock usually.

 

So wait a sec. You told me the belt that I sent you was the wrong size and you bought a new one

If that is the case why did you buy the wrong size and have him change it out again?

The pulley came off a 06 with Nav and I had no problems at all.

I think you need to take it to a different shop for a second opinion.

 

I just installed the pulley today and I'm getting this same whine. The INSTRUCTIONS said to torque to 47 lb ft, not 180 like you guys are saying.

 

I had mine installed a week ago and I haven't noticed any odd noises at all...my only question is how much of a difference does resetting the ECU make for our 3rd gens? I haven't done that yet.

 

No, it says 47 ft lbs of tq and then a 60 degree turn which comes out to about 180 ft lbs of tq. If you only torqued to 47 ft lbs of tq you better go back and retorque it ASAP.

 

Its probably just the belt making noise. You can try for a new tensioner also.

Wow I just got back from getting it torqued up I am a retard.

It still makes that whine, though.
