im sure there are many posts on this, i heard our motors are balanced internally so the pulley had no adverse effects on our cars right?

Has anyone with an 07-08 type s had a pulley installed and has done some decent miles and can report no issues?

i wanna get one, but i keep hearing positives and negatives...

I've not found any negatives on this board other than erroneous claims by someone's sister's brother's mother's boyfriend's emchanic saying it will damage the engine. There really are no negatives. And there was a member in the thread below that had 220k with his pulley on his 2nd gen TL.

TL-S? Yes. UR Pulley? YES!!

Done.

Want to know how? Read Kennedy's post here:

A-098: DIY: UR Crank Pulley info
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153549

And watch the You Tube video.

Used:

- Craftsman 1/2" drive, 20" Extension
- Honda Pulley Tool (for sale, PM me)
- 2 @ 15" x 1/2" Drive Craftsman "breaker bars" (one for the 19mm, one for the Pulley tool)
- 19mm High Strength Socket
- 48" x 1/2" Black Iron Pipe from Lowes (~$7) (Just buy it, you'll thank me later)

IR Impact Gun = No Dice

1 good pull with that 48" Iron pipe = CRACK!! (thanks mmade22 for the muscle, the time, the tools and the garage )

Removal = 10 - 15 mins (max) after getting set up.

Hardest part was getting the wheel off. ........... :troutslap

^ I'm with you on the part where the hardest part was to get the wheel off. I used everything you used and it was simple. TO EVERYONE:

Just use the right tool and it will come off perfectly!!

Thanks Bearcat94!

OP, your reasoning for going with the stock sized crank pulley doesn't make sense to me. Usually people with no system (like yourself) go with the lighter, underdrive. Am I wrong?
maybe hoping to s/c in the near future? that's the reason why i went with the stock size pulley...but then again there's an issue of surging, right?

it's perfectly safe. i unfortunately had to go through a blown transmission to figure it out though...but eh well, that thing was already on its way out. during the first few months of having the pulley on, that bad transmission stirred up my suspicions, but after having it fixed (yay for good will), i can absolutely, most definitely tell you that...IT IS SAFE! engines are internally balanced!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Bearcat94!

Dude, you have no IDEA. It took ~2 - 3 hours to get my wheel off.

I lost my lug nut key. Drove home to look for it - nada. FEK!! Back to mmade22's to get my car. Drive to the dealer to buy a new key. Back to mmade22's house. Wrong key. FEK!! Back to the dealer. Back to mmade22's house.

FINALLY have a key to get the wheel off.

The pulley was simple compared to that self-induced fiasco.

^ Oh damn, my bad! I didn't know about all that mess! Well in that case then, the hardest part was waiting to hear that "pop" that the bolt makes when it finally break loose. I'm still waiting on UPS to show up and deliver the pulley and the belt so I can slap it on and tighten everything back up.

Yeah, I'm a dumb ass.

Glad yours went in well. Right tools FTW!!

I really like this mod - car feels like it's much quicker (Butt dyno).

Definitely right tools FTW! I just got done taking it for a drive and the car does feel lighter. We'll see in a few days how it does, I'm sure my acurate butt dyno is going to love it!

Thanks again for the write up on how you did it Bearcat94! IMO that's how it should be installed if you are going to DIY!

I just placed my order for the underdrive UR pulley and Gates belt at the Excelerate online store for my 08 TL-S. I'm excited about this one! Since I don't have the tools to get the job done I'mma just have the Honda specialist (not the Honda dealership) install the pulley for me. I don't mind spending the money to have the job done right.

FWIW - our local Honda specialist quoted me, iirc, ~$90. About an 1 - 1 1/2 hours of shop time.

Yeah for a R&R job it will cost about that much with the Honda Specialist. I'm reluctant to have some else do the job other than the Honda dealership or specialist. The words and the name of the tool "breaker bar" just doesn't sound too good. Thanks Bearcat94.

600 watts RMS is the limit of the underdrive pulley without having an issue. I would still recommend the stock size pulley since you're pretty close.
