Ok...round 2 (or 3 if you count my first no visible cutting one)
So tonight, after work I added another vent. And I also cut the remaining 1/2 vent into half to fit it around the washer nozzle on the engine side. I felt a LOT of heat coming out of that section of the hood. Still far enough from the fresh intake area but gets the job done.
hood cuts
all closed up
Now obviously, I did this with a little more of a rush and I cut the hole in the cowl about a mm too big on the passenger corner of it...can only see if you're looking...but with any mod...when you first do it, you're LOOKING
Anyway, I'll simmer on it for a bit and see if I want to make a new grill (will have to stop at HD again for another one). So far though, I think I'm very happy with how this ended up...very functional, allows a LOT of air through and still looks pretty good (not as good as uncut OEM but you have to look twice to know it isn't oem).
I used more of that gasket adhesive stuff...it's black and high temp and sucks to get off your fingers but it gets the job done. Plus, it's black, so when it dries you honestly can't really see it against the cowl. I also opted to use it on my finger like caulk to kinda hide any upper parts of my vent that weren't sitting 100% flush with the cowl.
I did not bother with the gasket stuff on the engine side ones...the cuts are rough and too big but it was a PITA to cut around that little groove and I measure with the side that was bigger before cutting it down to even them out. Oops, but again, will never see it. Also, the wax china pencil leaves a yellow residue (duh) that is tough to remove from the cowl so use a pencil or something that isn't visible after.
That's it, I think I'm putting this mod to bed.

^^^ Looking good J....i bet round 3 would be removing the gutter guards from under the hood area, that will help dissipate the heat wayyy quicker....
Other than that this round looks marvelous...

Any of you guys know how to remove the wipers, I removed the plastic covers, took the nut off and pulled like hell, I even used a pry bar and cracked the windshield (Now replaced, had a rock chip anyways)?

Holy mother of GAWD!!! You pried with a prybar! Ok...so lube it up with some WD40 (although I didn't need to, read that it helps). To be honest, once it comes off once, it comes off really easily so I'm sure that when they replaced your glass they probably took them off anyway and did the leg work for you.
Ok, other than that, picture that spring that applies pressure keeps the arm kind of jammed at an angle if that makes sense...easiest way is to use one hand to kinda press down on the part of the arm that flexes down and with your right hand pull UPWARD off the nut. It'll come off...the wiper has all these little grooves that the arm slides down onto so just press down and pull up and wiggle a bit and it'll come right off.

^^^ Can you elaborate on the part that you got from homedepot, I just came back from there and the lady couldn't find it, I looked up and down the building materials for the outside gutters and couldn't find it anywhere, I even went as far as enlarging the image to see if the lady could scan the bar code or type it in with not luck. Are you sure it wasn't lowes? Thanks!

Shoot, now that you mention it, it was pet supermarket!!
LOL...NO, it was Home Depot one billion percent sure. I am actually going to head over there to pick up an extra (in case I decide to redo that one that is too short) and I'll take a closer look or post up the SKU

I actually just figured out I think this is actually intended to be a vent for a soffit vent.
Found it online but only available in store but maybe you can have the store special order a few for you.

just pick the one you think is the most functional and looks the cleanest!
i mean, if you're a true baller, you'll just opt for the full on UCM like inaccurate TM.
I don't have the sack to rock that so had to do this. Gets the job done though and so far, super happy with it.

Hey, thanks man...now that's it's been a few days, honestly, I feel the heat pouring out of these things when I park after a drive. Went out during lunch with 95 degree weather today and bam...no feeling the robbed power.
So far, it's holding up great, water can't get to the fresh air intake...and I don't smell ANY fumes at all.
Good luck!

guys i think your all doing amazing work with this mod with your own twists on it, i just want to point out something, if you go back in this thread where i posted all my pics and what i did,, you'll see you can still keep your washer nozzles in place and have the whole cowl out at the same time,, what i did was cut around the nozzles very closely so they were still held up where they are supposed to be and everything else comes out.. go look at the pics you'll see what i mean... btw be CAREFUL when cutting around the nozzles as you don't want to cut the washer lines by mistake,, i almost did but caught myself before i made the fatal mistake,

I'm sure some will appreciate the suggestion but I kinda think it looks like there is a huge gaping hole in your cowl...kinda like someone cut a huge chunk out of it!
anyway, definitely an option for some...but it looking pretty good was super important to me too (semi stock). forgot to add yours to my list of options though so thanks for the reminder!

indeed...I want to add to my original DIY for the baby jr UCM...make sure you sand the soffit vent things a bit before you paint them. The heat coming out of the vent will make the black paint start chipping off if you dont.

there isn't an option to add to cart, only pick up in store but when i click on that i get "ITEM NOT SOLD AT THIS STORE" for the every store near every postal code that i know, CA + Nevada

So let me get this straight:
Instead of removing the cowling to allow air flow as Inaccurate originally did, various ways have been developed to cut the cowling and add screening to allow air flow AND keep the appearance benefit of the cowling.
Is that right?
Pretty ingenious guys.
