Turbo
Turbo
I have a 2005 Acura tl. I want to get a turbo n the only kit ive been able to find is by j&r. It's like $6000 n I have about $2500. My tl is also an automatic n I am gonna convert it to manuel soon but was wanting to turbo it first. Would that be a problem?
With $2500, you might as well do bolt on's and the ECU.
A turbo only starts @ $6K. Then you need a dump truck full of cash to buy the tractor trailer loads of supporting hardware. It's a sickness, just ask my wife. But she let's me do it anyway.

It's not even enough to do full bolt ons + ecu. Heck, the ecu itself is going to cost $1800-1900 by the time he factors in the cost of getting it tuned. These cars are expensive as hell to mod.

I don't know why people say the TL is expensive to mod. It's really not expensive. The cost of good header (SSR/Skunk2) will cost you $1,200. The cost of J-pipe and Pcd will cost you right at $800. The cost of ECU Flashpro - $800, ECU KPro - $1,250 - $1,300, and the J&R ECU is $1,390.
Think about how many people has a Civic SI or RSX-S. The market is there for those people. For the people with automatics and manuals TL's it's a damn good price.
So I had to go out of topic...
But to the OP, if you want to mod and power... best opinion 1 is... " Is the car right for me?" Option 2... " Will i be tracking the car?".. Option 3.. " TL doesn't have much aftermarket mods/companies to have their hands on."
The TL was looked away for many reasons and one reason Hondata backed out on the TL was a clue. Or maybe it was American built.. :P
Anyways, look at your options, a good 4DR STI/EVO, BMW, or even a Infiniti G35S would fit your tuning as they have the better aftermarket place. So open up your tastes. It doesn't have to be a manual TL.

I already have an AEM cai and greddy evoII catback. I just wanted to do somethin bigger before I get it tuned. And I was wanderin if there was just a turbo out there that I could get for $2500. I know That wouldn't include the truck load of intercooler tubing n engine upgrades. I just don't know what turbo to go with.
YOU STILL DONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY.
There is a supercharger on the black market right now for $2700.
with $2500 you can buy just the turbo itself. nothing else. but then you would need to peice together a whole kit. which would come out to be like a lot more than the J&R turbo kit.
you can grab the J&R turbo kit for around $7000.Which comes complete with EVERYTHING you need.
Is this a hard concept or something????
I mean, why would you want to build your own turbo set up, that would cost more than $7000 when you can just buy the J&R turbo kit which is complete with everything you need.
and has been tested to work.

$2500 is barely going to get you a SC. You'll tear through your stock motor mounts and should immediately dump the ACM for an F/IC or JnR ECU.
