You can't go wrong with Craftsman tools. You get a lot of tools in their sets and they come with a lifetime warranty.
You will want to get a good roller jack and some jack stands. Also make sure you get safety glasses. Rust in your eye hurts pretty bad - safety first!

yea i need to get jack stands... would 2 be good enough? 100 pieces craftsman would good right? i dont wanna buy a set and find out later on that i need to go back to buy a few more pieces... then again... i would need to if some werid screw comes along...
Watchout for those Craftsman floor jacks... I was in the market, and a lot of online reviews (at least at Sears) says their jacks suck. However, some people on the board said they're fine. I'm gonna buy a Snap-On though.
Generally I don't care for those "mechanic box" sets of tools. I like Craftsman pro line, SK tools, ect. Ebay is a great place to find stuff cheaper than the stores. Craftsman pro sockets, and their thin profile hand ratchets rock.
ATLP: very large flat head screw driver, to mess with the hanger mounts. Other than that just a ratchet/socket set, wrench set, as far as unbolting and install.
I wouldn't use WD40. I would use Wurth HHS 2000 on the hangers, and anti-seize on the bolting.

Craftsman hand tools are good tools and still have the lifetime guarantee. Good prices too.
"Mechanics Sets" will have a lot of duplication or un-necessary tools.
Get a wrench set, a socket set (both metric), a socket extension/adapter set and a breaker bar. That'll do 90% of what you need mod-to-mod. You can add the few specialty tools (allen socket, spark plug socket, etc) as needed.
For the ATLP all you need (besides Jack and Stands) is a 14mm and/or 15mm socket and a 15" breaker bar. The breaker bar is not required, but gives you leverage in a tight space.

The Wurth stuff is super hard to find in stores, I buy it online. The HHS 2000 is not cheap, but its one of the best spray lubricants, and its rubber friendly.
Anti-seize is a common product, you can find it easily.

Snap-On website... but you should call for a local dealer. Shipping is like 80 bucks for their floor jack. It's a little over 200 bucks, kinda pricey, but it seems to have a 20" lift.
Plus, if you search there was someone who installed his xlr8 exhaust. He had the TL up on all fours with a ramp and Jack stands.
Nevermind found it...

it's a comptech

I would just get some craftsman tools. It sounds from your experience level that snap on is totally unecessary. I meant no offense by that just your questions lead me to think you don't have much experience that's all. sorry if i'm wrong. I have owned 3 craftsman jacks and never had a problem with them. Also craftsman sells a 3 ton jack with jack stands as a package, saves you a little money. Check out www.craftsman.com find some tools here that you may not see in the store. good luck
I just did my ATLP with a craftsman set. Went fine. I have the mechanics tool set which is overkill. You only need 2 sizes for the removal/install which I believe the sizes before listed were right. I did the exhaust swap w/ 2 jack stands. Just propped up the back end. I wont lie, I wish i did it on a lift bc it is easier/quicker, but its doable.
