Tips on making my Acura TL 2005 a little louder?

Hi everyone,

Acurazine noobie here. I own an Acura TL 2005.

I was wondering if any of you can give me tips on what kind of modifications I should do to make my car sound a little louder. I'm not that auto-savvy so I don't know much about this.

I've read about people mentioning muffler deletes but not sure if that is legal in CA.

I just want it to sound nice, little louder, but not too loud where it would attract the police.

Please let me know what I should do whether it be modding muffler, exhaust, or etc. I don't want to do anything too expensive. Just a simple sound boost, I don't really care about performance gains.

Thank you!

I have a K&N panel filter, I removed most of the stock intake silencing except reusing part of it to make a "cold" air intake, and I had my resonator and mid-muffler removed. Great lower end growl, not as loud as I would like but a much needed improvement over stock.

See mods in sig. Actually gave a ride to a friend with an Audi Q5 who wanted to know what he could do to his Q5 to make it sound like my car.

It's legal you will be fine.

On my 2G I did it and never had issues.

Mid muffler delete is the answer to all that ails you. Removing it is dirt cheap, doesn't affect emissions, gives a nice, calm, deeper growl. Do it.

just pony up and get a legit tuned exhaust rather than hack jobbing a stock exhaust

Ditto, I'm not touching mine until I get a legit 3" setup from third cat delete to tips, custom or aftermarket.

Actually, for this car, I think the OP has got it right. Why spend a shit ton of money on a "proper" exhaust, to only gain 5 hp? The TL will still be slow as shit.

Nowhere did he say he wants performance. Thank god. The TL is a money pit for making it go fast. Unless you're going forced induction, you'll be lucky to hit 300hp after spending several, several thousands. Big whoop.

The TL (esp. in A-spec or Type-S form) has a quasi-aggressive, sports sedan look to it. Wanting it to have an exhaust note that better completes the aesthetic appeal of the car isn't the biggest sin in the world. Car guys should get this. For $25 - $40 (mid-muffler delete) the car can be made to sound much better. Ditto intake resonator delete. These mods really wouldn't derail most people's saving's plan for a full exhaust system. Its all about the ownership experience which of course is completely subjective. One man's fine with a little more/better sound, another wants more hp. Its individualistic. For me, forty bucks to have a 'sports car' that's not whisper quiet was well worth it, even if a $2500 exhaust lies somewhere in the future. If we want to sound a little better over stock pop out a couple of resonators - big deal - that's not 'hack jobbing', its improving one's personal ownership experience. (also my $.02)
