Taming the beast! PCD Rasp (videos posted)

I swear there is a lot of babies on this forum. What do you expect when modding your car. Its a tradeoff for performance that if u cant take then u should leave ur car stock. Sorry just tired of hearing the same ol stuff "rasp with pcds" or "vibs from aftermarket motor mounts" DUH
I'm curious to see what happens, I like the idea of the PCD power gains, but not the rasp either, there is nothing wrong with someone try to find the best of both.

I am looking into getting Richies PCD's, but after I get his exhaust. mybe it's the rest of your exhaust that might be causing the issue?? I dunno, right now I have richies J-pipe, and I am just waiting for my exhuast from Richie, after that, i will give the PCD's a try. I will ask BostonSilvertypes if he has the same issue, when I asked him about the PCD's he never mentioned any raspy noise issue, but maybe cause I was asking about the smell. either way, I will have to accept the ricer sound for the gains. You can't always get what you want...
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need
Rolling Stones son... Rolling Stones

I'm sure that I will be another person complaining about the raspy sound after I install my PCD's. I just want to see the power gains when paired with the Richie's J-pipe and exhaust. If i really can't stand it then the PCD's will be going to the black market because if I am thinking right, with The "true dual exhaust," there will be no place to add a resonator... correct?
on the day to honda day me and my buddy were doing some highway pulls and i was able to pull on him and stay in front of him in 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear..when i shifted into 5th he startesd passing me slowy
Here are some resonators I found.

can you confirm this or do you know the size of the oem resonator?
tripled check everything and nothing is loose bro....
Don't be a dick. It is unnecessary. If it bothers you that much don't bother to open the thread and read about it.

the resonator will be here on weds and then ill post up a review with the magnaflow res

I had the same sound from when I installed my pcd's and j pipe. I ended up buying a resonated third cat delete and no more rasp. I had this set up for a few months but I couldn't stand how the car smelled when it was idling in the garage. I ended up selling the pcd's but I've been debating about getting them again.

I measured 18" maybe someone could chime in with some pictures. I think you are suppose to them in serial.

Yeah, you can run as many as you want. The only problem is that there is only so much tunnel space so that will restrict the amount.
The rasp won't get worse than it is now by adding a resonator or muffler. If you order a muffler, it will muffle the sound more than a resonator. Resonators are tuned devices based on frequencies so the sound may change. I am trying 2 resonators right now but I may end up replacing one with a muffler.
It's all trial and error.

From what I've read though, isn't a resonator bottle neck minimal being a alteration of frequency compared to a smaller pipe or even a muffler bottle neck?
I think there is good balance yet to be found, and when it is found, i'll hop on the PCD bandwagon
Like KN said, trial and error.

If you go with a straight thru Magnaflow, you will not lose any power. I have the PCDs, RV6 V1 Jpipe, and a custom 3" exhaust with a Magnaflow 12641 (30" body) running to NO MUFFLERS and there is ZERO rasp. It's all in the resonator. I am getting my Dynomax Ultra Flows put on soon, which I'm really excited about. It's very loud right now, especially in the car since I'm running open Ypipe, which is right under the back seat.
A 14" resonator is most likely going to be too small. I'd suggest getting a 20" or larger with the PCDs.

Here's the bottom line:
If you don't want rasp with the PCDs, you need an extra resonator. Depending on which catback you go with, I'd suggest between a 14" (body) and 30" (body). Any of the straight thru Magnaflow mufflers between 14" - 30" would be a good choice. Like I said, I am running 3 inch piping from the test pipe back with a 30" body Magnaflow and I have no rasp. And that is without mufflers!! I have a video in this section (although I have an Accord 6MT). The sound is very similar to what a TL would sound like with the same mods, being that the motors are almost identical.
With that said, you will not lose performance with the straight thru mufflers because, well, they are straight thru. You will lose some steam with the baffled mufflers, but not with the straight thru design. Magnaflow has both the XL Turbo (baffled) and straight thru designs. Choose wisely. The straight thru mufflers are also quieter; a statement which came directly from Magnaflow himself
Don't be a fool, straight thru is cool

I don't think it defeats the purpose, there's more gain from installing those pieces than loss from resonators and what not.

you should get the PCD you wont regret it
also i think if you go with a j pipe where it keeps the stock cat you wont have rasp. my neighbor use to have a v6 accord and he had richies v2 j pipe and his PCD he said he had no rasp
so i think with the v3 j pipe it eliminates the stock 3rd cat thats why i have rasp
me and richie spoke on the phone today and im gonna run the magnaflow and the oem resonator...pretty much from what i learned all it does is pretty much change the frequency of the sound but it wont effect the performance

me too bro...i might go back i loved how nice the exhaust sounded with just the j pipe
i got a text from richie my question was if the magna flow resonator will get ride of the rasp his exact words are "yes it should"
can anyone else confirm this before i start cutting away at my exhaust

It's completely normal in all brands of cars to have to run an extra muffler or resonator when removing cats if you don't want the rasp. This isn't just a TL thing.
Hissing is almost always a leak and sometimes how the rear muffler is designed. Running larger piping will usually help too but it will make it slightly louder.

i made a clip today when i was at work ill get it uploaded tonight
all i can say is rv6 v3 j pipe+rv6 v2 PCD+magnaflow res+stock exhaust = sexy ass exhaust note

got the resonator installed today and all i can say is SEXY.....i love the exhaust note now. 95% of the rasp is gone it sounds soo good more throatier

This is basically the same setup I'm contemplating so I'm curious to hear how it sounds also. I've already got the Magnaflow resonator welded in, I was going to do just the Jpipe, but if it doesn't sound to raspy/ricer I might pull the trigger on the PCD/Jpipe combo...

its on my phone lol
ive been busy the past couple of days
its on my phone but it doesnt capture the true sound from the exhaust...i dont wanna post the video and scare anybody because it picks up some gayy noise..let me try recording the video with my nikon to see if its any different

ok im at work so you have to bare with me i went out to record a video with my nikon..its better quality then my samsung captivate...i made three videos but the others are larger files so theyll take longer to upload. here is the first one again like the other videos i made i cannot capture the true sound from the exhaust. in the video it seems like rasp but its not. i only have rasp between 3500-4200 rpm..thats only if im crusing at city speed limit. at WOT there is no rasp at all because no much air is flowing through the exhaust.
i just wish i can capture the true sound of the exhaust, it sounds soo good IMO it has a deep growl and a nice throatier sound now after the resonator. i would recommend the richies jpipe and PCD to anyone. If you want to get rid of most of the rasp then get a magnaflow resonator and youll be almost rasp free
i will post the other videos when their done uploading. Enjoy and let me know what u think
