Cool Sway less?

Is it worth putting on the updated sway-bar links? I mean if you already have the bigger rear sway-bar? Where do I get them. Can we feel this mod? Looking for input here......

Comptech told me the new links were improved and solved the "thud" noise heard on the previous ones. So I asked myself why spend more $?

OK, now I don't understand. If it does make the ride better. Why not spend the cash? Do you have a link to the parts?

Actually, it's more important than the bar thickness. A thicker bar with squishy bushings counteract each other and perform no significant gaing in firming up the rear..

You'd be well served updating your stock bushings with a nice poly, without bothering with replacing the bar.

The Comptech "thud" is the bushings effectively "bottoming out" under stress. The bar is working in transfering the force equally across both sides of the car, but the force is transferred to the bushing, which can't take it.

If comptecch updated the bushings, great, but the ones that came with mine in May ere crappy OEM like soft rubber.

Do yourself a favor an d put some quality Energy Suspension Poly bushings in.

I wish I had the time/energy to just do poly bushings on the fronts as well.

Energy Suspension Poly bushings on the sway-bar mount? Is this what you mean? Cuz I did that. But I am wondering about upgrading the link and its bushings. Does anyone have a link you can post for a better link replacement with bushings????

Thanks......

I'm saying replace the Comptech sway bar bushing with ES poly bushings. I see what you're askig for now.

The endlinks are metal/solid. There's nothing to replace that I'm aware of. Other style swaybars using a different mounting configs use "endlinks" with bushings on them. My 2000 Nissan Xterra used endlinks with bushings on the front bar, and they were soft and squishy.

I'm prety sure all you can replace on the TL is the front and rear swaybar MOUNTS.... and noone has replaced the fronts yet becaue you have to drop the front subframe to remove them.

Not sure what value there is to be has replaceing the solid bar endlinks with bigger stiffer bar endlinks. Worst case, you could make some out of a spherical bearing and eye, like on VW Neuspeed bars... but not sure what you'd get out of it.

Have you crawled around under the car and looked at the mounts? Am I missing something?

Thanks for the answer!

Yes I had my car on the hoist last week. I (my mec.) put in a camber kit. As I looked at the link. I was surprised to see it was only like a pencil thickness. Like maybe 3/8ths? Compaired to the S-Bar. And I was looking at the bushings thinking this looks like a weak point. So that is why I posted this. I wondered if others (after replacing the S-B) had also replaced the links/bushings. I still think this is a weak link. No play on words meant! I'll bet new bushings and a bigger link would be stiffer/better......

Has anyone seen the parts needed for this upgrade? If so can you post a link for them?
Thanks......

I asked the same question on these forums when I replaced my sway bar, and I was one of the first to use the Energy Suspension greasable bushings to replace the Comptech ones. The same company, Energy Suspension, also manufactures end links with the upgraded poly dampening materials in the end link pieces. What I'm not sure of is how / or which parts would work on our cars, if any.

Here's a link:

However, they don't look like our end links, so not sure if they would work....

Don't ours have a 90 degree bend and the bolts go into the upper end and sway bar end kind of sideways...eg...parallel to the ground?

Thanks for the link. I don't know which one it is ether. So I called them. He said "Not yet" but to check the site after Nov. 1st. That the TL is on their list of cars! So I guess we just need to wait.....

Something we are all good at! Right????

I was under the impression that metal was harder to pull / stretch apart then it was to torque... Its not my number one project in my car. I would go crazy with all the other bushings before I did this...

GQ, those are like i was describing on my Xterra.

Yes, our go 90 degrees, and are buil around a sperical bearing... We would need something equivalent to this, but I would expect very limited performance improvement (these are for a VW):

Yeah I don't think it would do much for your performance, but if ESP had the part out and it wasn't too expensive I'd probably do it, it's easy enough, and probably costs as much as the bushings did (about $15). The ones on their website definitely won't work though.

Oh, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for ESP to update their website for the TL! Everyone that has used their bushings so far had to do so with the help of these forums, as they don't list any compatible parts for our car!

The reason why the links are thinner is because they are working in tension, where the sway bar is being torqued
