supercharging the TL

hey guys,

i was just wondering how is the TL engine at resisting against a supercharger??

what kinds of problems arise when trying to go supercharge on the TL's.

im looking into buying a blown TL, what should i look for?

Thanks

Jeff

the car im looking to buy has an manual tranny.

now, if the TL trannies are weak, can i rebuild it with other parts to make it strong and able to resist against the additional power??

there is no reason for the tranny to mess up if i drive it like a baby right?

i dont have, but there are a good number with who have had little to no problems. if the car was taken good care of by the last owner and you do the same you should have no issues. both trans have issues, but different issues, i would test drive and make sure it feels ok and none of the gears slip. i think its the 3rd gear in the manuals that have the issue. thats all i can say without giving mis-info. do a search on trans problems or wait for others to reply. good luck!

the problem for the Auto and Manual people is the tuning. The Ghetto tuning Comptech provided is good enough for once in a while use, however their tuning system isn't that great for everyday driving when engaging the S/C. There is detonation and a few other things that could be bettered.

okay, but properly tuned the TL should have no problem holding 4lbs of boost. i do alot of highway miles too, so it shouldnt be too bad on it. right?

I managed from bring my auto tranny from 40,000 miles to 123,000 miles without any issues. I'm sure it's possible to do the same with a different TL.

How do you plan to properly tune it? Every supercharger kit was untuned and should never have been released as it was. All of them will eventually cause an engine failure. The engine is plenty strong for the hp levels encountered but until you have a way to tune it (or run 100 unleaded all the time) and get rid of detonation, it's going to let go eventually.

I would run away from a used TL with a supercharger.
