Might as well not even try boost if youre going to try to do it "on the cheap". You can only get so cheap before it bites you in the ass with a failed engine.

^ agreed there most than just the cost of the turbo of s/c. You also have to consider fuel pump, injectors, water meth, tuning, and blah blah blah

I agree to a point, but not everyone needs a $1500 turbo. There is WAY too much brand name nut hugging in the automotive aftermarket. For some reason it's very prevalent in the import world, yet not in domestics.

There are PLENTY of reliable, performing, and inexpensive turbos available and being used to make a LOT more power than anyone has ever seen on this forum or any of these cars. Will it spool as fast as a billet CHRA, ball bearing, Precision? Nah, but I refuse to put a $1500 turbo on a $2500 car. Same with wastegates, and BOVs, etc. Just those 3 hard parts alone can lower a setup by nearly 2K.

There are key places where getting a brand name makes sense - the fuel pump, injectors, tuning. Hard parts? Not so much.

I don't look at it as 'cheap' as much as wisely spent. Everyone thought the JnR kit was the king dingaling, but personally I think the FMIC it came with wasn't anything spectacular. Did it get the job done? Sure, but a dual pass isn't optimal.

I'm pretty sure everyone here with a turbo setup has spent quite a bit of money on parts and still ended up with a failed engine. If I blow up my motor, I'll have to buy another $400 longblock.

My rationale was that for the SC to be considered over a turbo setup, it would need to be a good bit cheaper. Why spend nearly the same amount and have that fugly thing sticking through the hood? Reminds me of the old Weiand 6-71 blowers on hotrods.

What kind of boggles my mind is trying to understand why the Comptech kit is STILL 5 grand when the prospective m90 kit, with a blower that is a better fit for the J's displacement, is going to be less than half the price.

I understand that a big part of it is the packaging, but I'm hopeful that maybe its only a matter of time until someone goes and actually copies the packaging of the Comptech charger while using an M90. Like mentioned before, there was someone on V6P trying to adapt the 90 to the mp62 comptech uses, but I don't think that actually went anywhere, which is a shame. At the same time, that's just additional cost on top of the Comptech blower setup...

Remember that the Comptech price is full retail for a brand new blower, while the M90 setups are using junkyard superchargers from old GM 3800s. I could never get a reply from the person 'that we dare not speak his name' regarding the M90 setup he made, but it did fit under the hood.

Apparently it had to be fabbed from scratch as the company that makes the puley and snout for Comptech won't sell them separately. I believe there was one person here that had attempted to swap in a m90 on the Comptech setup, but as you said, they had to purchase the M62 first.

I definitely do understand the brand new / junked blower aspect of it. I guess I just wish that Comptech had went the route of the larger blower - in theory its the best solution to the charge air temp issues the kit has (and we would have probably seen more people with them as well?)

Yeah, he who shall not be named () never did disclose any details on the m90. The user I'm thinking of is someone different, I'll try and dig up that thread. If I recall, he got very close, and just kind of gave up on the project. If I recall that project correctly, the body of the blower actually fit everything except the snout, and an adapter plate needed to be made for that, but beyond that it was minimal additional work to make the charger work.

The $5k price tag includes the cost to get the CT Engineering m62 supercharger kit CARB legal, your talking $$ to get it tested an approved. When I purchased my Integra's exhaust from Hytech, John explained to me the process and how expensive it was. Plus Hytech doesn't do the volume to warrant getting their exhaust systems CARB approved, it sounds like a headache.

for the price of the comptech supercharger you get the 50 state carb sticker, that means never having to uninstall the kit for smog, also the power delivery is smooth and reiable. power never changes on WOT. do i reccomend a 5k price tag power added for 40 hp, nah. look somewhere else for power, contact jerzand he made serious supercharged power with his setup

It's good. It's now S4zine / CTS-Vzine and Rockstar's threads are still full of gay erotica. So same old.

Not to discourage anyone, but a 13 second Cobalt SS/SC can be had for 3-5k. Sure its not as luxurious, but would save you the wear and tear on your beautiful acuras. I should know because i just sold mine with 84k miles for 5k. There is NOTHING that compares to that m62 whine! except maybe a TVS lol.
