Short throw shifter

Has anybody here installed a CT short throw shifter and or bushings on their 6spd? Notice any improvement? Pros cons?

I've done both.

SS was a big difference made even better with a weighted knob and different fluid. I am considering shortening the top side as well.

Also changed the bushings, my mind says there was a difference but I don't know. I changed them when the car was really new so the existing bushings were not sloppy. It's a cheap mod.

I will let you know in 2 weeks. Ordered bushings and SS, should be here next week sometime. And I got the GM syncro mesh tranny fluid at home. Still looking for a weighted shiftknob but I don't know how I feel about paying 80$ for a shiftknob

No, it mounts to the bottom of the shifter and makes it longer.

Installing the short shifter, and the slave cylinder checkvalve remove was the best mods i did to the car. I have a weighted shiftknob, and the corsport bushings also. But the biggest difference was the ss itself, then the next weekend i did the checkvalve removal, i realized why i love the TL so much.

Check valve removal should be the first thing you do with a 6MT. It's free and the difference can only appreciated by trying.

I got a CT SS and I love it! I also cut about an inch out from right under the threaded part then re-welded so I keep the treads! It's a little heavy but SHORT throw.

With the new solid bushings, how did you guys get the old ones out? I tried but they were snug and couldn't get the retaining clip off. Any pictures and tips would be much appreciated as i've had mine sitting around for like 6 months now.

Here's a post with some instructions:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ifter+Bushings

As it notes, there is a snap ring. I had the right tool so it was simple.

I'm pretty happy with it. I've gotten so used to it the shifts seem too long now.

I agree. Time to see if it can be machined down and shortened on top.

Machining is possible (NOT easy) but just too much work. I just cut mine and weld it to keep the treads!

Don't think you have to worry about breaking it. I've seen some pretty hard throws with the short shifter and it held up.

You could always weld gusset(s) to it for strength. It's all under a boot anyway.

Its fine with the ac on but without......, I think the console and shifter area are 2 warm. But honestly I'm not even sure if it was like that b4 i installed the CT shifter and the weapon R intake. Temp gauge ok tho. Need help!!!! Is this normal???!!. Did the ppl who i had install the shifter do something wrong?? Taking it back 2 the dealer for other minor issues. Wanted to kno.

I am relaxed. That probably happens because the heater tube for the back seat area isn't attached properly so the warm air escapes into the console area. This is just a thought. I didn't install the short shifter but I did take that apart and I almost didn't put it back right.

Thanx a lot for the thought. Now I can approach the dealer with a little more knowledge. I really think it was negligence on the install tho so they probably didn't do it for real

Unfortunately i didnt know about these when i did my ss but it my be worth the while to install these. Decent upgrade for the price.

http://www.corsportusa.com/store/cat...ducts_id=10844

These are relatively easy to install and compliment the ss nicely, i got the aluminum ones, i believe there are brass ones now but for me to make the change would be pointless i think.

Good luck.

P.s. you gotta do the slave cylinder mod to tie this project together, thats the big cherry on top. I promise you will fall in love with your teansmission.

Thanx a lot Loco. I'll definitely get them. U said it would make the shifts tighter but they're pretty rigged right now? Still get em?. I just got my TL a couple weeks ago and I've been inspired by members like you on this forum and I wanna do everything to make this car eeeeven more perfect. The sig says what i've done so far but....... I live in NYC and these city streets are pretty ruff on the suspension. Can i change anything to make the ride smoother and more "girl in car" friendly. I had planned to get 18s or 19s from the jump, but i think that's only gonna make the ride worse if the 17s feel this way. NEED help! Is that really the norm or should I have my stock shocks replaced by the dealer. Got it with 29+k. Read the reviews and heard the sport suspension is ruff on city streets but I'm wondering if it's this bad.
