Serious Problem? Help needed ASAP

I just got my AEM intake installed, and I had the guy move the sensor in the optional step at the end.

Now I have an orange light on my dash which I looked up in the manual and it's an emissions malfunction warning.

1. Is this normal for AEM intake and relocated sensor? I would like to hear from all of you that have done this and if you got the light.

2. Is it dangerous or damaging to the car to run it?

ALSO I just called them to tell them (just drove it home 5 mins ago) and they said it's probably normal, and they will look into a way to bypass the light so it wont be on all the time. But I don't remember anyone else having this problem.

If it's not normal I really need to hear what might be the problem and why this happened... and what I can tell the shop to look into to fix it, becuase at this point I am extremely worried they don't even know?

Oh, I also had new springs and the comptech rear sway bar put in all at once. Might these have done something otherwise?

I moved my sensor and mine doesn't have that light on the dash....maybe move the sensor back and see what happens? If the light is still on call AEM and see what they have to say, they maybe able to help you, But I would at least move the sensor back first just to see what happens. Sorry that is all the help I can give u.

You could move the sensor back, but need to reset the computer to see if it will come back on. Otherwise, the light will probably still be on even if the problem will be fixed by moving the sensor back. I am not sure if the TL works that way, but you can reset the computer on many cars just by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes.

I do not think it would have anything to do with the sway bar. The light comes on oftentimes because of 02 sensors, etc. and it seems that it is related to the fact you have moved the sensor.

Good luck, Mark.

I will try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins without moving anything. then if it's still on i will try relocating the sensor and disconnecting battery again. maybe this will fix it.

Fantastic news: I disconnected the battery for about a half hour, reconnected it, and now the emissions lamp is happy as can be. I had to put in the radio and navi codes again, but the emission lamp is off. I drove it around for about a half hour to be sure, and the car is running very very well.

I did not need ot move the sensor at all, just the battery thing did the trick.

I wonder if the guy who did the install for you disconnected the battery while he put it in. If he didn't that may have been the problem in the first place. After he did this for you did you have to put your radio and nav codes in? I know in the instructions it says to disconnect your battery. Thats probably so your computer doesn't freak out and throw a light when you turn it back on for the first time. Just a thought.

Should have asked one of us in the Mid-A to help you do the AEM. I just did mine the other day with no problems. I could have helped you as well. Granted I live in Woodbridge so you would have had to come down here but it would have been done right with no CEL and saved you some cash. If you need help with anything else just ask. If I am available I have no problems lending a hand.

I had a CEL ( check engine Light ) come on shortly after I installed my AEM CAI with the last page modification. Probably drove 2 days before the CEL came on.

After a short panic attack about the install, I remembered I also filled up the day after the install. Now, I always click the gas cap after pumping gas, but for the first time in years I didnt remember twisting the cap on ( probably too excited about driving the car ). The CEL light went out shortly after ( 1 day ) adjusting the cap.

If the Emissions CEL comes on there really is no danger in driving the car for a short period of time, as noted in the manual. Though you might notice a decline in gas mileage.

It sounds fantastic, and even better it feels faster! The sound is really there when you stomp the gas, very cool sound too.

Hi tzakiel,
I haven't read this thread until few minute ago, had I read it back in October 12, I could have saved you some troubles and concerns. Basically, all you had to do was disconnect the battery and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Reason I know is that my friend Tommy who put the AEM intake in for me did mention the battery needs to be disconnected or else the o2 sensor provoke the check engine light to come on.

You should be able to remove the fuse for ECM and get the same benefits as disconnecting battery without losing radio codes etc.

Probably located in under-hood fuse block, probably 10 or 15A...
