SC belt broke- Help

So my wife was driving and the car started to coast

Anyone have the installation guide to replace the belt and helpful hints replacing it?

What possible damage should I look out for? The only noticable damage is to the plastic spinner below the SC. Circled in pic.

What would be a fair price for a tech to do it?

Yes I am the guy who made the sc maintenance thread couple of days ago.

All this after we had blew the motor in our SRT 8. $15K later and we have only had both vehicles back for 4 days. Man I am sick of cars.

Its a serpentine belt, there are routing diagrams here and via google, and it's a extremely simple thing to do.

Absolutely no reason to pay anyone to put a simple ass belt on. Tensioner has a 14mm to take the tension of the belt so you can get it on.

Sounds like you really need to learn the "Ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Belt wear is really easy to spot long before they break.

Here, I had this in my photobucket. Just add your SC pulley in there and it's all you'd need to get the routing right when replacing it.

Thanks! Got the belt ordered. Question...does the plastic part that I circled route the belt. Just nervous because some of the plastic broke.

I lucked out. They have the pulley for $49.00. Not a bad fix for $ $86 total.

Got everything ready but how do i release the tensioner? Surelly I don't just unscrew it? Any special tools can't seem to fit any of my sockets. Just a long 14mm wrench? I am a idiot.

Short 14mm socket and just push it towards the rear of the car.. that should give you the slack to put in the new belt. the tensioner is reverse threaded

The tension pulley is the way to go. It is VERY tight and hard to budge. The bolt doesn't actually loosen, but the pulley moves inward towards the back of the car. You will probably need to put a bar on your wrench to get the proper leverage, as it has a lot of tension.

Thanks, ran out of light

??? You are just trying to put the belt back on right?? The pulley is reverse threaded to loosen you actually go clockwise to tighten you go counter. Its like this so the pulley tightens and when you need to replace your belt, doesn't loosen your pulley..

I am used to tensioners that pop out of place or alt that move. My small 14 mm socket it did not seem to move at all but it was short with no leverage. Guess the orignal confusion comes from if I need to remove the tensioner or will it "pop" out when I push toward the car then just push it back once the belt is ran.

Got it. You need leverage to push the tensioner towards the rear of the car, no need to remove it. Just run the belt as it goes thru all the pulleys leaving the tensioner pulley last. Get a wrench or ratchet that you can get some leverage with and "pop" it far enough where you can put the belt on.

Thank you again for all the help. Finally felt it move but with a 6 in wrench. None of my sockets fit. Running to lowes first thing and should be all set.

Can't thank everyone enough! Knock on wood, all fixed up. That belt is a bitch without a long 14mm wrench
