Rv6 Jpipe is FINALLY in!

Just got back from a mechanic and the Jpipe is Finally in after 2 months of staring at it.
Was pretty glad I did not tackle this job. It needed a torch to heat up the nuts.
Had a hell of a time finding a place that would do it, found a Craigslist mechanic that took on the job. I got lucky and the guy does good work.

Mid muffler delete + RV6 Jpipe.

rev'd it, got lucky no rasp. Probably cause the motor is already hot, but the sound is actually less than with the mid muffler delete only. The tech expected more of a growl at start and when he mentioned it, I was thinking yeah maybe.

So far it's much quieter which was unexpected, but kinda welcome. The sound characteristics are different, not deeper, not louder, sounds more stock.
Car does feel a little more free, so far so good.

I'll give my honest review as I just installed my RV6 V3 jpipe today.

I definitely noticed a deeper throaty sound paired with my recently installed AEM CAI V2.

In terms of driving feel, I didn't really feel anything but *maybe* a little better response and pick up. Nothing significant or noticeable. I made sure to reset my ecu via unplugging my battery for 10 plus minutes.

Put it this way, had someone installed the jpipe on my car without me knowing about it, I would have never known that anything had changed.

RV6 customer service was very good. Fast shipping and prompt customer support.

Do you have to reset the Ecu or is it just recommend?

I think it's recommended that anytime you make a modification to air flow that you reset the ECU so it can go through a relearn process. You're changing the amount of back pressure as well.

I do agree the difference feels very minor in local driving. Doing a few 3rd gear pulls, I do feel some improvement.

I have not reset the ECU yet, I think I was reading that it will adjust eventually, so I'm going that route for now.

I had more growl with the mid muffler delete only, it's odd, but in my car it's gotten quieter.

Nope. Stock Pre cats. Not gonna go the PCD route on this one.

I guess the only drawback is, it doesn't have that G35 sound anymore. Mid muffler delete gave a nice growl and now it's gone.

As you can see from the pic I am keeping the stock resonator on.

Good thing the car is not raspy. This is one issue that is keeping me from doing the jpipe and pcd combo. But with pcd's I'm sure the there would be some rasp.

I think at that point you have to bite the bullet to swap out the resonator.

Think you could take a sound clip? My J pipe is in the mail now, only had the car 2 days lol, I'm gonna delete at least the mid muffler and possibly the rear ones too.

Might be able to get to one except in park, but currently is sounds like stock. Wish I had done a before sounds clip, then you can hear the G35 growl, now it's just plain jane stock sounding.

I was supposed to get min put in today. I was at a softball tourney and my wife took it to the shop for me. After taking the stock j pipe off the car, dude tells her the part doesn't fit. He said the rear flange doesn't line up and the new j pipe is about a foot longer than the stock one. She says to them are you sure there is nothing else that has to come off the car in order for it to fit?? Now she doesn't even know anything about cars, but she knew enough to ask if anything else was supposed to come off. The guys tells her no and proceeds to put the stock j pipe back on and I still get charge $85 for the work. I come to find out that the guy didn't take the 3rd cat off the car, so no shit the rear flange didn't line up the j pipe looked a foot longer than the stock j pipe. I got in touch with the shop and talked to the owners son. He gave me his number and told me he felt bad that his dad even charged me so I am meeting up with him tomorrow even though the shop is closed and he told me he would do it for me for free.

And that sucks to hear Bruce about the whole sound issue. I was hoping for a bit more tone or growl as I also have the mid muffler delete done. Kinda sucks if it goes back to the stock sound again after spending $400 for an exhaust part, though I'm sure my wife won't mind no sound change, lol. I guess I'll find out for myself soon.

TY Steve and to you as well fellow new RV6 Jpipe owner.
The difference hasn't been so night and day as hyped, but that may be the ECU needing time to adjust?

A little loss in growl is kinda ok by me....NINJA!
I think you ran into a similar issue as me, shops don't want to remove the cat, so that explains why the tech removed it before the 3rd cat.
Even my craigslist mechanic stopped a bit and said "O this pipe goes that far back, that removes the cat...."

Hopefully when you go back tomorrow, they don't have a hitch with it or at least refund you.

When I talked to the owners son I told him that the 3rd cat has to come off. He was like OOHHHH I didn't know that you wanted that removed. I kinda laughed and I was like, uh yeah I want it removed, how else will the new pipe fit, lol? I guess this is what I get for not being there myself in the first place, but c'mon man, you have to know what has to come off the car just by looking at it. The shop is closed tomorrow so he's opening it up just for me and has told me several times that it is going to be free and he's not telling his father (the owner) about doing it for me. Of course I'm not a cheap ass even though I kinda got screwed, so I'll still give the kid a couple bucks for doing it on his own free time.

Heh, I would think the dad knew and that maybe why he stopped before the cat.
Removing cats is against the......

Could be quite possible. This place makes totally custom exhausts though and after meeting some of them on previous occasions (mid muffler delete and exhaust tips), something tells me they don't really mind doing "those" types of modifications, lol.

My buddy and I had the same conversation yesterday.
He was saying 'So let me get this straight, shops have no issues making custom exhausts systems that are catless, but won't remove a cat..."

When the mech looked at me, I was like "It's ok, I got 2 more cats in there..."

noobs.
where do Honda's make the most power?
at VTAK, of course.

this is where the jpipe shines. in the RPM range of 4-7k.
it does add torque throughout the power band, but gains the most at vtec

You purchased the V3 right???

Because my exhaust howls when it hits 3.2k rpms under acceleration. I also am running the mid-muffler delete. My car went from the deeper growl tone to a more higher pitch tone, without going raspy. I am absolutely in love with it right now.

Normal driving feels the same for me, except for starting and high acceleration.

It's louder than just mid-muffler delete but not overly loud.

Im also running a CAI which roars on hard acceleration, but I doubt that would effect the exhaust note.

Yerp it's a V3.
Lost the deep growl to a higher pitch tone, like you.
I have no CAI, but I kept the stock resonator, no rasp yet. I'm sure the ECU is still adjusting.
Not sure if I'm in love with the new sound, the growl I had before was nice. Car just sounds more stock, which is cool too.
