Regarding: Cold Air Intakes

Hey guys. I am always on the forum here and I know there is a possible post on Cold Air Intakes But.... I wanted to know if you guys think it is worth the money to buy a Intake for a stock 05 TL automatic. Do you notice a big response with it/ horsepower & torque increase/ better gas mileage? Give me your feedback and what Cold Air Intakes you recommend. AEM ect...

Thanks

i noticed a gain, although i also noticed a drop of 1 mpg after i installed it. funny thing when i did install it. after turning the vehicle on, the CEL came on. at first this worried me, took it out for a quick drive, as soon as i spiked the vtec, CEL went away. i would recommend the intake mod. sounds a bit meaner as well.

not sure what you mean by a possible post on cold air intakes.
There are many threads on this
I installed the AEM, and definately noticed a difference.
I took my dad for a ride before and after, and he noticed a difference also.
My mileage went up 1, which surprised me because I get on it more now just to hear the growl.

Thanks

I am almost convinced on buying the cold air Intake, but is AEM the best out there? Also, does this conversion effect our manufacturer warranty?

the best thing of all =) it turns your V6 sound... into like a V8 or something like that..

the GROWL is HUGE!!!

and i love it.. u can cruise on the highway.. no noticing anything... accel.. and u will love it =)

after the AEM.. i find it easier to wheelspin = torque gain at lower end i think

try doing this

blip the gas pedal first.. then step on it =)

i dunno about the brand.. but the AEM sounds quite nice.

I have asked the same question.... And I have been told that "only if it is determined that the cause of the problem was due to your CAI, it may cause issues with your warranty"

Hope that helps.......

I just installed an AEM CAI last Sunday......AND I LOVE IT.....sounds great....I feel the slight torque increase when I take off from a dead stop.... and my MPG improved by 2.....Highly recomended MOD.....go for it.....
I'm hoping someone can tell me what causes the whistling effect on the AEM CAI.....it sounds cool....but I wonder what causes it....lol

the whistling is pressure leaving your CAI ~ think of a flute, or really fast air going thru a hole err..aka whistling ~ and there you have it lol ~

i'm still debating whether to grab a CAI since i have no cash.. but the sounds and just the way the engine looks afterwards is too damn attractive!!!

aem has a bigger pipe = louder noise, more power, louder whistle

injen has a smaller pipe = not so loud, not as much power, barely any whistle.

I've got the AEM, and I recommend it. My mileage went up 2 MPG, but I find my foot more towards the floor than before. I recommend and exhaust mod after the intake, then your ears are in for a treat!

The following info based on gen 2 intake- not sure if applicable to gen 3s

Those on a budget can increase the air getting to the engine by removing the
LOWER intake resonator.
This is invisable to certain car inspectors too!

Does getting an AEM air intake request modification to exhaust???

I like the way the stock exhaust sounds as it was fine tuned by Honda...

Sometimes I hear civics and integras make farting sounds or high pitched buzz sounds like bumble bees. Or even heard it where someone blips the gas and then u hear popping / cracking sounds. will the AEM do that to stock exhaust?

No- it doesn't require modification to the exhaust. Rule of them is you open up the intake breathing, you open up the exhaust flow. By modification to the exhaust, you might get a couple of horses, but it's the sound most people are after. And on the TL, most people go for a growl rather than the fart can exhaust like on the 4 cylinder Honda's and such. It's all just personal preference.

I installed the AEM CAI and I like it alot. The first thing you will notice is the improved throttle response. In most Honda/Acura vehicles, there's a little lag when you want to punch the throttle say.. for a tight lane change or something. After installing it the lag time is practically gone. I recommend it.

You can get a Fujita CAI for the +04 TLs for 160 shipped. I think Fujita is the same as AEM right? or is it the same as Injen? i always get confused.

Cold Air Intake

Does anyone know a good place in Central Jersey to buy and have the AEM CAI installed? I'll also consider buying online if the price is right, just don't want to pay a fortune for shipping.

Thanks for the help guys!

There is an official vendor here that sells them both AEM and FUJITA....might be worth getting in touch with him. His ACURAZINE name is Excelerate and this is his web site "http://www.ExceleratePerformance.com ".

You can also go to autoanything.com......I believe they have free shipping.

And I installed mine myself.........and I'm not all that good with car related work....
Hope that helps.....

Contact our "boy" Excelerate... he'll get it to you overnight...

Installation is very simple... shouldn't take longer than a hour to 2 hours depending on the skill level... AEM include very detailed instructions... specifically for the vehicle...

Good Luck...

PM me if you need someone in NJ to install if you're not comfortable installing yourself...

Thanks for the help guys! I'm going to get in touch with Excelerate. I've had the car since 3/20 and havn't done too much except get the windows tinted (5% all around) Next up is the intake and to make a decision on 18's or 19's, I'm thinking about Zinetti Five Rims (blk w/ chrome lip) with Michilin PS2 tires. Anyway, Great to be apart of the acurazine family and talk to guys again soon.
