Recommended air intake systems.

Browsing the forum I have found that a lot of people run the AEM cold air intake system. Doing research I've read that CAI is best used on cars that are already heavily modified; mine is not. Is this true or can I put it on my stock car? If not any names of other good intakes that aren't CAI? Thank you in advance.

you can put it on your car but dont expect any gains in power. You will gain some noise.

Everyone ends up getting a cai eventually. Even though they dont give power. I went with an aem v2 from excelerate, sounds great. Not hard to install at all.

Many like you, who have asked about getting a CAI as their first mod are given advice to get a j-pipe instead because it will give you small gains in power, unlike the CAI, which is mostly noise, like ez12a has mentioned.

But to answer your question, yes, you can put an aftermarket CAI on a stock TL with no other mods.

the thing is; the TL comes with a cold air intake STOCK.

also, there are cheaper and more fun Mods than a cold air intake.

Well for starters, Mods are personal.
What do you feel is lacking with the car?
is there something that you feel the car needs improvement on? whether it be in the interior, exterior, suspension, engine, etc.

I believe my first mod was tint.
Living in Texas, the sun isnt a joke.

suspension is another area I felt was lacking.
I added a thicker rear sway bar to the car and every day driving improved.
changing lanes felt more solid and not to mention lift off oversteer. lift off the throttle in a turn and the back end swings out!!!!
It's fun!

WAAAAy better than a cold air intake....

Stock is best. It provides all the air flow our little V6's could want, and best if all it's safe for all driving conditions.

I recommend

DC sports CAI 3" (with a little cutting mod)
7" AEM filter
Crankcase and Coolant (TB) Bypass Modification
TB spacer
Cleaning of the TB

It will not make you gain any power. Intake is not for that
It won't make you lose power... that's what it will do.
Will make you use the power that engine puts down at it's best

Cut out the intake resonator, it's free. You won't gain any power, but you will gain a little bit of noise.

Skip the expensive intakes, if you want the noise go to O'Rilley and get the intake pipes they sell in sections. I think I had one long, short with port for Crank Case Hose, and a 45. Throw a filter on the end and your done for about 45.00. Pipe is pipe, I dont understand why people spend 200+ on an intake, period.
