Rear vs mid muffler

I deleted the mid muff and have it on hand a while back. This weekend, I also removed ONE of the 2 rear ones. (I also have resonator swapped with 12" dynomax, and 3rd cat deleted).
After taking off the single rear muff, my God i have drone for days, all over until 4k, at which point it has become a bit raspy, but i liked it. Either way, its too droney and loud for me, so putting a muffler back.

Any idea what would happen if i put the mid muff back in place of the rear muff that I deleted? Its a smaller muffler, so not sure if it cancels out the same frequencies.
I originally only wanted increase the volume, but it completely changed the sound profile. Too bassy and low end focused.

I enjoy the bass tone with only the mid muffler deleted. If you delete the rear mufflers it’s will sound like the garbage kids are turning their cars into these days.

so I went ahead and did it. From the outside, it sounds really nice to me. Inside it’s just full of drone and bass. Changing it back, but it was fun. Have a listen:

Nope, don’t have that big of a budget.

Mid muff delete, 3rd cat delete, Dynomax 12” for the stock resonator, and then did the single rear muff delete.

This guy use to be on here, don't know if he still is or not. But anyway, he kept everything in tack, but removed the rear mufflers. I am considering this very set up...

You should like a deep bassy sound from your exhaust. It won’t have texture or that purr you get from Lexus muffler deletes. Just the one muffler delete I did and it was filled with a lot of bass and low end.

if your exhaust guy lets you, just cut off the section before it Y’s out to the dual mufflers. You should get some idea of how it’ll sound. Recommend taking it for a spin, get up to a decent 70km/h or more to see if drone exists.

do you have a 3.5 type S or 3.2? That makes a huge difference, as does tips.

This would be done on my 08 Type S 6MT, I also own a 07 Type S 5AT that I did a resonator and mid muffler delete on. While it's not terrible I won't go that route again. In fact when I had the 07 done the shop even said the best bet is start in the back...but oh well. It's far from awful or loud/annoying. But higher then I wanted.

A major priority to "me" is keeping the oem tips.

whatchu mean by higher? Price, volume, drone, rasp?

if it’s rasp, you might like a Dynomax 12” in there. No rasp or drone when I had it. For some of that purring, you could take out the 3rd cat too that opens up some texture of the exhaust note, but doesn’t affect volume or low end.

To make things easier, I would recommend at least trying out the exhaust using clamps instead of welds, for ease of change. Perhaps rear mufflers off but keeping the mid muffler could be an experiment, but just cut it off (I don’t remember if there are flanges, but they probably rusted) and don’t weld. See how it sounds, the level of drone and then decide. It’s cheaper as well. Also, the exhaust 100% changes a little as it settles down and gets used to the new change. I noticed positive changes 2 weeks after some of my changes.

I get some drone on cold starts at lower rpms. and actually the rasp isn't very bad. But the pitch is indeed higher then desired to me. But I do think I will start with deleting the rears on my 08.

This thread is where I found the video I posted above...

This idea popped into my head. How bout putting one of the rear mufflers in place of the mid muffler. Basically a rear muff delete, but the mid muff is one of the rear muffs to remove any drone. Should result in a bit of volume increase + slight addition of bass in the sound. Seems like it would be perfect for me, if it is what I think it iwll be.
Should be similar to a rear muff delete, but slightly more quieter and livable. No drone is my main concern.

Well I did go ahead and tried it out. It sounded nice actually. very livable for someone who wants some noise and minimal drone. A Muffler delete would be too darn loud and droney (ive tried deleting just 1 rear and it was deafening drone, but did sound good though!) Just had one mild droney spot at 2k. otherwise pretty good.

Here it is with exhaust just straight piped up until the rears. No 3rd cat, no resonator and no mi-muffler (atleast not where it originally was). Right muffler is the stock rear. left is the stock mid-muffler in put in place of the stock rear.
