^ I hadn't seen a TL with traction control installed either. SpeedFactory hadn't seen a TL installation. I was also hesitant since there's already traction control I didn't want to have two competing systems if I forgot disable the Acura TC. At this point I'll probably be offloading the hondata TC.

Rebuilt!
Picked up my TL tonight. Man I missed the turbo goodness! with the built bottom end they were able to advance the timing and up the boost a little so my current numbers are 406 whp and ~380 torque. I'll post up the dyno a little later.
They did notice that the car was pulling a lot harder on the street compared to the dyno though. The TL would hit 13psi of boost on the dyno, but on the street it would go up over 15psi so they had to back the boost controller down so I'm at 13psi. I think some street tuning is probably in order to make sure it's tuned properly.
In the mean time, here are pics of the pistons and rods installed.

And this is on a 5AT no less... jesus. Looks like there is hope for us 5AT folks yet. How is it in fourth? No issues with it dropping out of VTEC?

Great numbers, my son is going crazy waiting to get his going again, DEFINITELY have Vit Viper Tunning do a street tune the only way to ensure a long lasting motor IMO, have fun driving that 400 WHP beast

I haven't been anywhere that it's safe to push the TL in fourth so I can't speak to whether it drops out of VTEC or not. It's ridiculously fast in first through third, I imagine the speed continues with 13-14psi of boost even with the taller gearing in fourth or fifth.

Hey are any of you guys replacing any OEM sensors to make sure you're getting decent accuracy when tuning?
O2 sensors can drift over time, and I think the air intake temp sensor can go way off as well. What about knock sensors? Are these known to drift? Seems risky to invest thousands in goodies without a few hundred in new sensors.

How about some video and sound clips ? really interested in how the turbo sounds out back

We the people of Acurazine, humbly request some sexy video footage of said mythical beast, the working turbo TL
Bonus points for making an auto kick ass. I'm striving to do the same in a year or so and you've given me hope

I'll see about getting some video this weekend, it's been rainy up here in Washington so I may only be able to get interior video. I'll do my best.

G****mnit!
Two weeks ago my CEL came on for misfires in cylinder 2. A compression check showed that it was at 120psi, the other cylinders were all at ~200psi. The engine is currently being removed to see what is going on now.
I'm pretty upset and frustrated at this point. I'm having SpeedFactory put in a stock engine and exhaust while I take a break from this project to recoup my sanity and save up if I decide to try again. Depending on what the cause of the misfires in cylinder 2 were I may be giving up on a rear mount turbo or turbo'ing all together.
I'll get post some more info on the damage when I get an update from the shop.

Sorry to hear this. I know the last post you had was 406 whp and 380 tq. Was it still at that point with 13 psi or had you turned it up? Was that tuned with meth at all or just 93? I thought you had been running meth but it's been a while.
In either case, other than catastrophic random piston failure or as KN mentioned possibly excessively tight ring end gap, what else could be the possible cause than detonation?
I'm starting to lean towards a J&R ecu now just to take the oem crap out of the mix.

What was that guy in Canada using? The one that hit 700hp. IIRC his name was Tony the Tiger.

They completely deleted the factory ECU I believe, deleted VSA, deleted DBW and converted to cable throttle.

Its pretty nuts that he's got the A3 revving to 8k +
Luckily the shop that built that engine is local to me

He did it in stages - He had a stock bottom end J32A3 first that was running a smaller turbo and only tuned on AEM FIC making "only" 400 - 450 wheel. After they cranked up the boost and blew a rod he went full built.

Im on 9psi currently at 502/440. At 11psi i was 555/495 and couldnt try any other boost levels (up to an estimated 18 at max blower output unrestricted) because I need an even larger fuel system which I am now beginning to build (twin 450lph e85 walbros and 10an supply)

Damn, built bottom end, water/meth, and tuned by Vit. I'm REALLY hoping (for everyone's sake) that it is something other than a broken ring land or popped piston. Maybe a burnt valve or blown headgasket. Did they do a wet compression test in the cylinder that read low?

I started thinking about this blown motor, as well as Uath's over the weekend. I am curious, in both of your cases, did VSA engage a lot, or perhaps shortly before the engines went?
I have been searching for a root cause on these failures, and while some may be content to just say "the motors are weak" I disagree, especially with the popularity of the J's in sandrails, and Honda swaps. It appears that ONLY TL's with stock ECUs are cracking ringlands and blowing up motors.
I can't find any whitepapers or technical info on the VSA system other than it is Honda's TCS combined with a slide control system with a yaw rate sensor. If it retards timing a lot, then adds it back very fast, even if not excessive, could this be contributing to the issue? I know big timing jumps between cells is not good, even if they are technically 'safe' timing values, just the big jump can be dangerous. Something to think about anyways...
Any word from the shop on what all was damaged maddog?
