Smile questions about the last mod i wanna do.

Hello all,
1st time post, long time visitor. I have just one mod i wanna do on my 06 mt before i just wanna sit back and enjoy the ride which is the e-shift pro cat. so far i have the compt rsb and aem cai which i am very satisfied about.

Would bolting on the e-shift cat not pass the strict CA smog law? i know the aem intake has the legal sticker on it and aem is a very respectable performance company, accepted by practically all car dealerships but e-shift cat is not the most well known product.

And also, any probs or complaints about the pro cat such as not bolting on correctly or lack of performance? all comment would be appreciated, thanks.

PS- changed the stock mtf to the new 07 honda mtf last weekend, no more bad shifting 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd

I can't comment about CA emissions, but I can tell you that I am very happy with the Pro-Cats. It is a direct bolt-on, and fit was perfect. This is one mod that I did not do myself.

Did you get it shipped from EXCELERATE directly? And how long did the installation take when you had a mechanic do it? thanks for your reply.

hey paul. Where in so cal are you? a shop I go to C&C auto can install those pro-cats for you they are along beach blvd and whitter blvd. They work on all cars, alot of hondas and are ase cert... I know someone who put the pro cats ons and c&c auto put it on for them. Should take a few hours. if you buy it you will feel the power and the dyno will prove it. 21whp and 7.5tq gain on the buds car... If you buy it get back to me... also smog is 4+ yrs and by then the cats from the outside would look old and maybe stock looking.. hehe

Right, so it won't pass smog. Visual is part of the smog check. Most shops probably won't notice, but the cats are shiny...

visual is a easy bypass if you know how to work it.. hehe.. if you are worried about visual i assume you got nothing done to the engine since nothing is carb for it correct?
the pro looks old after a few months...
hint hint..hehe

the only other thing you can do that will mess up carb is the k&n intake. i slapped one on a few years ago and they still don't have a carb sticker for it. I'm not worried about any of that since the garage i used to work at does smogs.

unless you are sure the place you are going to will overlook visual (or better, find someone you know so they just ignore it) your car gets tagged and its a pain in the ass because you will most likely have to put on the oem cats for the smog. i have no doubt that the procats will pass the pipe test - hell most cats out here will blow clean, just won't pass visual

You could always have someone fab up a heat shield for you so they can't see the cat.

im now convinced to get the pro cat. in terms of the smog check, i will worry about it in 4-5 years since i just got the 06 mt half a year ago if only the pro cat comes w/ a carb sticker like our aem cai, since subinf knows that the cat will pass any pipe test, its just visual that might cause headaches.

mmcv6, thanks for the heads up on the auto shop. im in oc, so beach blvd is close to me. did you mean whittier blvd & beach in la habra? how much is installation there?

another question about the pro cat, how much would my mpg go down? im not concerned about the gas costs, just more curious than anything.
thanks

with the high flow cats your milage should actually increase, that is if you can lay off the throttle!

I don't think so... The 3.5L engine is virtually the same engine, with only .3 L more displacement. Honda made this possible by using "free flowing" catalytic converter"...
Replaceing free flowing cats with aftermarket free flowing cats is probably moot.

But what do I know.

somewhere on these forums, i read the the eshift have a 200 density, type S had 600 and normal tls have 1200 density. YOu will have a gain, but half since the car alreayd has somewhat of freer flowing cats. Has anyone though about just getting it painted flat black and like the inside of the stock muffler tips so it will look older while preserving them?

hey. yah in la habra... If you get it done at the shop I will have the pro cat guy/car to meet up. If i remember correct labor for the pro-cat install is $180-200... Gas mpg will go up and it will be faster..
let me know when you buy it and are about to get it installed.
cool

I bought directly from EXCELERATE. No problems with that.

It took my mechanic a few hours.

Correct in that the Pro-Cats are the least dense (least restrictive), followed by the TL-S stock, followed by the TL stock.

Considering I gun it now more than ever, my MPG probably is a bit better since getting the Pro-Cats.
