Ok, wise guy, I'm just going off based on what my friends told me and Jackstransmission, so here's an idea, you guy's use it for a few years and let me know in the long run who was right or who was wrong, cause I was thnking about using the UR pulleys too until I did some research but I'm just putting in my 2 cents that I found out from some shops but hey your car, if your keeping it for along time let me know how well it goes

Go look through the 2nd Gen forums and search... you'll fing MANY folks there using UR pulley's for MANY years and 60-100K miles... and not one reported problem.

It's a scary sounding mod, with lots of powerfully opinionated folks on both sides of the fence... but there is NO EVIDENCE. Just a bunch of "advice" from supposed "techs".

Unless you get the vibration that some here are saying they get right after the install. I would be concerned about that.

You know guys, I made another thread asking for feedback on the pulley's and unfortunately for Aznpersuasion, I didn't get one bad comment, except for one guy who has the vibration issue, but I think that is related to it not being properly torqued.

I actually talked with the owner of an acura dealer at a meet on Saturday and he said to give him a call on Monday to talk about having one of his service guys do the install for me. We'll see how that turns out.

JUST USE A GOOD 1/2" IMPACT GUN!....This whole torque thing is gettin ridiculous...lol...proper torque specs...and all....the only time i torque anything is when im puttin a head back in....or puttin wheels on a car....and thats only cause we have to....i never met a single tech who torques a crank pulley on...even when i was at ford...working on 7.3/6.0L diesels....shoot it on and forget about it....both my 05 and 07 tl-s are just fine...

if you are suppose to crank it down to 181 pounds how come the directions that come with the pulley say to tighten the bolt down to 48lbs

Perhaps you are looking at the directions for a pulley on the steering or other accessory pulley-

the crankshaft pulley has to be on frikkkin tight!!!!

Good question

Well, you are partially right. It does say to tighten to 47 ft. lbs. But, you then turn an additional 60 degrees.

Next question is why do they spec it in this fashion versus just an overall torque value ???

Excelerate explained this before and has tested the actual torque value using this method and found it is right on spec
Not everyone has a 200 lb torque wrench, but 100 is fairly common to have or borrow- so if you can get it to a known torque value- mark the bolt and index referance and then turn the extra degrees of rotation- you get to the correct tightness- loose is BAD

i was just curious cause i called an acura dealer and asked them what the spec was and he even said 48 lbs but didn't mention turning another 60 degrees. anyway i was at the shop and had it installed today they guy there said 48 was to low and he put it on as tight as it would go with the gun he had. He said it should get 181 no prob with that. so far so good, no vibrations from anywhere that i can feel.

The fear is that either you have overtorqued it and damaged the aluminum pulley or worse the threads in the crank or that you have not torqued it down enough and it comes loose. If you have a M/T it shoudl be enough to put it into 6th gear and have someone press the brakes. If you have an A/T you are looking to hold the flex plate in place. I don't have a picture but if on the driver side of the j-pipe there is a plate that can be removed and the flex plate is behind there. There is a tool Honda manufacturesr to hold it in place or you stick a crow bar in there and hold it in place while using a torque wrench to torque it down to 181 ft lbs of tq.
in other words, keep it stock right? lol i don't know about the whole purpose of UR pulley if i can't torque it down.

They are saying not to blast it on with an air gun- that covers their butt if you bend it or break it. With the torque plus rotation method while friend holds prybar in teeth of flywheel- all will be well

It takes a massive compressor with the output cranked up and the trechs air gun set to max to get anywhere near 181
Take a torque wrench to something and find its only 120 !

In other words torque it down properly. I didn't say keep it stock. The UR crank pulley is a great mod but it needs to be torqued down correctly. A lot of shops gun it down and that may work but at my shop we torque bolts down to spec. I don't torque every single little bolt to exact factory specs but the crank pulley bolt is an important one and it shoudl be torqued down properly. And if you can't do the job properly yourself then have a mechanic do it. This is a part I recommend be professionally installed.

Make sure everything is lined up correctly. You could try some spray silicone to quiet it down a touch. There is stuff specifically called belt dressing that would be your best bet. Also make sure there is proper tension on the belt and that the tensioner hasn't failed.

The noise might be a bad bearing in the tensioner pulley (idler).
