Problem with Comptech Short Shifter, Help.

I installed a short shift kit in my TL a couple months ago and have noticed a fairly loud click when I shift gears (short shift kit on stock shaft, I would assume). Is this normal?

I also about 1/2" of play (front to back) when shift front to back gears. It is solid going from right to left, but that solid feeling I had the I first installed it is gone and I'm contemplating going back to stock if it can't be corrected.

Anybody else have this issue and what if anything di you do to correct it?

i've had the thing on for about 4-5 months, and it's been solid. If i were you, i'd take it apart and make sure the thing is still on the bottom of the shaft. When you screwed in the hex screws, was it all the way in? I noticed the first few times, i didn't have short shifter all the way on. That's the only problem i could think of.
good luck!

I've had mine too for several months and it's been solid.

My only issue is with 3rd gear (like others) but I'll be changing to the GM stuff soon.

check the hex screws and make sure the loctite sat correctly with the whole unit...

hondafans: i think i have the same clicking sound as you. Another way to describe the issue might be when the stick is either in gear, I can "jiggle" the stick a little forward and backwards without it going out of gear. It makes a tiny clicking sound when i do it. Does that sound familiar? I've had my SS installed for almost a year now. I think i've only started noticing the "click" a few months ago. So far, i've been able to tolerate it, but I would certainly like to hear if anyone else is noticing this w/ their SS.

I installed my Comptech Short Shifter a month or two ago. Now i am starting to feel 'play' in the shifter. Only going from 1st to 2nd gear as well as 3rd to 4th and a little 5th to 6th. I am thinking the short shifter didn't seat with the loctite. Looks like ill be taking it apart to make sure its still together.

Anyone else figure out their problems?

No prob. with mine. Been on for about 2 years. If I recollect, a lot of loctite was used.

Old thread, but I have the same issue. I'm pretty certain it's the loctite. I noted that my set screws are on the sides of the shifter, and my assumption is that is why the left/right movement is solid, and the up/down has wiggle room. I'm probably going to tear it all down again and try using some more locktite, or maybe jb weld

I re-did my short shifter because the 'play' was bothering me. After i took it apart and after some analyzing i realized that i had not pushed the SS all the way down. It had done the first click, but realized the screws were only on the ball of the shifter. I tapped it with a hammer and sure enough it fell down and was a snug fit. I knew for sure it was on this time.

Hope this helps. Just make sure the side screw sit flush. Mine didnt at first, but now they do.

Guess I need to take it apart again I had that issue at first where it kept sliding down every time I would tighten the screws. I had popped it down a little further and it worked, but maybe I didn't hit it far enough down. Either way, I love the feel of the shifter.

I am about to start this project today. I am doing a little bit of research so as to not have to ride my bicycle to work on Monday. I am very glad to have read the tip on tapping the SS down with a hammer. I hope I can dismiss this issue from the start, if not at least I acknowledge it to be a recognized incident. Thanks
