Ported/Polished Upper Intake Manifold and Runners!

Yea I meant the SH-AWD manifold. The 09 and 11 are the same. I'm figuring if I get the manifold and cover, I can sell my ported manifold and spend less. I'd wait for the TB because it's $$, and probably do a 3.5 or 4" intake.

^^^ exactly my thoughts....
am thinking of buying the manifold + cover and selling my PNP manifold + cover + PNP MDX spacer.....this should even out the cost....
then buy the TB and make a 4" custom intake.....sell the bored TB + AEM V1....that should hurt me by couple hundred dollars....well lets see how it goes....

***Update
I installed everything and fired up the champ. At first it sounded like there was a vacuum/air leak somewhere on the left side of the manifold but everyone else said it was fine. I may need someone to confirm this. I took it out for a drive and have to say my butt dyno senses that I gained more power than the stock type-s to J-pipe install alone. Is this possible with PnP Runners and IM, 1/2" MPP IM spacer with 1 P2R gasket, 1" MPP TB spacer with 2 P2R gaskets and Maxbore TB?
![Drag](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/drag.gif)
The car pulls harder than hell in every gear and just feel like it freaking glides effortlessly (much, much more so than before). It actually feels as if I gained low end power. I dipped into it off a roll and damn near lost control - it was unleashed. On the freeway it's just euphoric. I have to say I'm quite surprised and didn't expect this.![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Here's a phone pic of the engine bay with MPP on the TB spacer. It looks good; I think it would look cleaner if the MPP was smaller.
Funny to see the ray of light shining on the engine. I think God is smiling upon my engine lately...wish he was there the other night driving home.![Tomato](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tomato.gif)

I am glad I left my spacer on...I don't get why there's such a divide on this mod...one guy on here is saying he got his throttle response back when he REMOVED it. I don't feel any lack of throttle response at all!
Then again, I've been driving super chill since my ticket last week.

I thinking about going with a 3.5 mag manifold(get it ported), tb spacer, and eventually a skunk2 DBW TB. Which If im right should bolt up to the 3.5 mag manifold since the newer civics are using the oem J35 TBs as an upgrade.

My tbs are 1" 70 bore. And engraved or non engraved. I will be sending Hacura a new one in a a couple weeks. I want a happy customer. And they work from 04 to Mag manis not on the 4th gen stuff. Working on that also. Because some of you have 4th gen manis

In case anyone is on the fence on this mod, like I was. I just installed the ported intake manifold from gerzand and outlaw IM spacer and can highly recommend. I have a 2005 base tl.
Overall there is performance gain from 3,000 rpm and up. The intake also seems to have a little more noise or growl to it. Added benefit is that mileage is a little higher. After about a week of use, my mpg seems about 0.5 higher. This probably a combination of both the ported manifold and thermo spacer.
The overall gain seems slightly less than the j-pipe, but more than any of my other "bolt ons". This includes the type-s cats and ur pulley.

I vote for yes....
its an expensive deal but i like it....
am running a 4" intake to SHAWD TB (81/72) to SHAWD Manifold (75/45) to ported and polished 3.2 runners (45/stock) and i love the setup

So I received my intake manifold and runners from gerzand about three weeks ago and have been playing around with them long enough to let me post my thoughts so far. FYI, I also upgraded my XLR8 J-Pipe from V1 to V2 at the same time and my experience is not backed by any dynos, so take it as you will.
Before and After:
Gerzand did an excellent job removing all of the gunk from the manifold and runners. By itself, removing the build up of junk represents a decent power gain. While everything was apart, my friend and I also took the time to clean the intake ports of each cylinder head. These ports also had a decent amount of gunk build up.
Gerzand also did an excellent job of polishing and porting the manifold and runner surfaces while maintaining the stock "inlet" width on each part (he explained that it is better to remove material from the inside of the parts than to expand the inlets). This is an added plus because there is no need to cut gaskets or anything crazy like that.
Before:
![](http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p117/A_modder/cars/TL/019.jpg)
After:
![](http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p117/A_modder/cars/TL/011.jpg)
![](http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p117/A_modder/cars/TL/003-3.jpg)

![](http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p117/A_modder/cars/TL/007.jpg)
Performance Gains:
While I did state before that I upgraded my J-Pipe to a more recent model, there is no doubt in my mind that this mod greatly increased the power in the upper RPM range.
Third, second, and (if you dare) first gear are downright scary at WOT. I'm not saying there is any wheel spin or anything, but the torque steer will bite you if you aren't ready for it. The acceleration is just brutal beyond 5,000 RPM. Honestly, that's the only way I can describe it.
Throttle response is also notably better. When downshifting, I feel as though the throttle is more accurate and lands the engine RPMs much more closely to where I need them to be. Before this mod I found that I would land the RPMs just a tad short of where I would like them to be when rev-matching. Now, even when driving normally, I find it much easier to smoothly rev-match my downshifts.
Additionally, from a stop, it seems as though I don't need to push the throttle quite as far to smoothly engage first gear. So there are definitely some lower end gains to speak of as well.
Other Differences:
As other users have stated, there is definitely a fuel milage improvement that accompanies this mod. According to the trip computer, I am currently netting 26 MPG with an average speed of 31 MPH. Normally during the summer, I find it very difficult to get more than 300 miles out of a tank when driving my normal commute (which is 15 miles each way with 70% city driving). Honestly, I have to drive more before confirming whether or not porting and polishing the intake runners and manifold improved my MPG. Regardless, I did not go this route because I wanted better fuel milage, and thus do not expect to get better fuel milage.
It would be a neat side effect though![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
![](http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p117/A_modder/cars/TL/PhotoJul10104249AM.jpg)
Wrap Up:
So what's the bottom line?
For the money spent, this mod is equal to the price to performance ratio of a J-Pipe. The only downsides are having to rip apart the top of the engine and the down time for the car while the parts are worked on (if this is the route you choose to go). Also getting the gaskets can be a pain and as well as a hidden cost.
Overall though, I highly recommend this mod if you are looking for something that is both cost effective and notably enjoyable.

Below is my 'gasket-matched' 3.7 manifold. The stock 2012 IM gasket matches perfectly to my ported runners so I had the manifold gasket matched so it would line up. The guy did a pretty good job. One port (assuming the last one he did) doesn't 'taper' as smoothly as the others, but I don't think it will be a big deal.
My question is....if I buy the P2R Thermal gasket, will I need to get that bored out as well? Or does it come slightly larger than stock anyway? Could anyone measure it?![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
