Options for Reducing Drone
Hi,
So I have a few questions. I got the ATLP Quad non-res and the drone is pretty bad around 2K-3K. I've done searches and here's what I came up with a few questions:
1. Quieting down the exhaust via resonator may not necessarily reduce the drone?
2. I have ATLP J-pipe and cat back, but factory 3rd cat, does that combination contribute to a lot of the droning? (I don't want to remove the 3rd cat though)
3. If I were to get a resonator, which would be better? Magnaflow, Aero, or Hushpower?
Thanks guys.

My exhaust used to drone ALOT with just the ATLPV2 Jpipe but when I put on the test pipe it was 100% improved. I think it will help a lot with your setup as well as a good Aero resonator...I've heard good things about the AR25. And if you need a test pipe PM me.
i replaced the stock cat with the high flow cat... not sure if this reduces the drone or makes it worse since i have no other exhaust system to compare it to. you should consider getting an HFC instead of a test pipe IF you decide to replace something in that area. i hear test pipes cause rasp and cali has strict emissions testing, no? as for the resonator, i have no clue. i was hoping to look to you for answers later on, lol.

Ya I guess I can get a HFC, i don't know if i should spend more money on this though.
give it some time, maybe it will change the tone a bit.
i'm installing the v3 pcds when they're released, and was looking at the 22" magnaflow straight thru resonator to help with the rasp. i've got the xlr8 non-res quads w/ v3 jpipe and it sounds GREAT as is, but i know the pcds will change that note dramatically.
let us know if yours changes at all over the next few weeks.

the exhaust sounds so good during hard acceleration, but yes... when you're going up hills and it just stays in the 2.5-3k area... that's the killer. i'm trying to get myself used to the sport shift thing so i can shift when the drone is starting to kick in while going up hills. it throws me off because i can never remember if up is downshifting or if pushing it down is downshifting, blah blah blah. it doesn't really matter... i'm quite okay with the noise. i just feel bad for passengers who are in the car with me. especially my mom who complains about it non stop.
I know the mild drone from the Excelerate resonated version was significantly reduced after I installed the J Pipe and 3rd cat delete. From what I hear though, the 6MT doesn't drone as much as the 5AT. I'm getting the HFPC's when they drop, and then I'll re-evaluate whether or not I want to add a resonator. It sounds so damn good I hate to mess with it.

Muffler Shop Guy And What He Said
ME: "Hi, I have this aftermarket exhaust, and the drone is just terrible at 2k -3k rpm"
HIM: "Ya you know people just slap on an aftermarket performance exhaust on a luxurty car, and they end up not knowing what they are getting themselves into. Next thing they know they are on the race track all day.
Honestly, you can spend hours and hours and days experimenting with different resonators, moving the muffler forward or back, there is raelly no way to get rid of the drone without investing time and science into the exhaust. I would recommend talking with the manufacturer on what the best setup is, or just get a different system"
ME: "So can you weld this resonator on for me?:
HIM: "Sure, it may or may not help"
ME: "OK"

When I first installed my ATLP Quads which was two weeks ago, it was pretty damn loud and drones like no other. But after it broke in a bit more the drone has improved a lot. Its not that bad anymore IMO.
