Newest Ultimate clutch, flywheel...J&R twin disc

The only way to purchase one of these is through JandRnextlevelperformance.com (best customer service I have received from any one in the car modifying industry hands down, Rodney went out of his way many times for me to help me meet my deadline.)
Here is the new clutch kit from JandRnextlevelperformance. I dont have much time now, just want to get the pictures up. I will edit later with a full review, and install tips.
The new clutch/flywheel design weighs almost half what the stock unit weighs.

flywheel comparison, J35a8 on the left, j32 on the right.

I was in a bit of a rush to receive the clutch, as i have a IFO event in 2 days. So i had them ship it without the flywheel bolts. In ordered to use the new presure plate, I ended up using J32 flywheel bolts with a little washer on it. The j35 bolts are to long.

The motor is back in the car, but i have not blead the clutch and set the pedal stop yet. I will update on drivability, and wear a little later.
all the pics can be found here http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y42...a8%20Type%20S/

SWEET! I was told J32 is only a 1-2 week turnaround. Currently shopping for a lift so this will be my next upgrade. Curious about the difference in engagement.

I was wondering when the early adopters were going to post some pics of the setup. I can't wait to get mine in.

Did you happen to weigh the flywheel by itself? Also, what about a measurement comparing the diameter of the discs versus stock?

Got the car running last night. The ring gear placement is perfect, it start just like it did with the factory flywheel and pressure plate, no grinding, no hanging up, no weird noises. I am still adjust the clutch pedal pressure output, so i dont over stroke the pressure plate. I have about 4 hours to work on the car still until i leave for IFO Houston. Once i drive it I will Come back and leave some feedback on pedal pressure feel, and engagment.

Just got done driving the car, and all i can say is OMG. This is everything i was looking for. Im making a few videos of the reving, it is much faster now, and the rpm's drop quick for shifting. The pedal pressure feels very nice, its a bit stronger than stock, but not has strong as a exedy hyper singel (nsx). Maybe just a tad more force requred than a act hdss. When this thing engages its no joke. I killed it three times trying to leave my driveway. It takes a minute to get used to, but once you have the feel its just like driving with any other clutch. There is a very fine like between engaged and not engaged, but you can control it with your leg/foot. while shifting into 3rd and 4th gear with the stock clutch, i used to have a small delay when the clutch was slipping or flexing from the dm flywheel, but with the unit, once you let it out, Its hooked. I whipped my head back a few times just letting it out to fast. More info, vids, and revies to come

Just wanted to share my weekend story. So I have been planing on making 12ish IFO events in 2011. I have been planning them since about September 2010. Rodney went out of his way to make sure i got the clutch i needed, i had drag wheels and slicks, I was going to lay down some very impressive times.

I installed the clutch and put the car back together and started it about 3 am on 1/29, i slept for a few hours, got up at 7 to finish putting the car back together, and adjust the clutch. I finished the car about 10am. Went to a local performance shop toyspeedmotorsports to mount the tubes in the slicks, and get the extra muffler welded on. Finished everything around 6pm and was ready to leave for houston. I left for houston Saturday night at around 10pm and arrived at Royal Purple Raceway (Houston raceway park) at 8 am sunday 1/30.

It was raining but was supposed to stop and clear up. The announcers all morning said that it would take around 2 to 3 hours to dry the track when it stopped raining. Instead of canceling the event the IFO staff and raceway staff just kept telling everyone that we will be able to race. By 2pm The rain had stopped and the track cleanup began. Again the track anouncer said we will be racing. To make a long story short, they lead everyone on all day long just to cancel the race. Im so mad right now, i cant even explain it. The bad part is I had about 1.5-2 sseconds on any on anyone else in my class. I would have most likley won, instead i got 20+ hours of driving, about $400-500 in traveling expenses, and didnt get to make a pass

that sucks... but maybe it was a good thing. dont you think its a good idea to break that puppy in for at least 500mles or so, before taking it to the drag strip?

ps, i had no idea you had a j35 swapped prelude! nice!!!

With the type of friction material its made of, i think it would be ok. There is not much "break in" grace on this clutch. Most clutches are made of organic materials, or kevlar, those material can easily glaze the mating surfaces. But The way i see it, i have metal on metal, not much glazing and slippign, just grabing and going. If they ever finish clearing the two feet of snow off the streets, i will take it out again.

Question

How is driving around town?

A friend of mine put a lightened flywheel into a civic and low speed drivability was horrible.....

i would say even with my stage 3 clutchmasters (not as bad as the j and r one though), would be to learn how to creep along at slower speeds, instead of constantly engagement the clutch and what not; so the you don't really even see the engagement qualities of it

or if you do say have to stop at a light, you makes sure to put it in neutral, then when others start to creep up, you just sit there and wait till they really start to go, then you do

I am daily driving the car right now. The first day was a little tricky on the first gear start, but by day 2 if you were sitting in the passanger seat you wouldnt know it has an aftermarket clutch in it. It is much more sensative than the factory unit, therefore giving the driver complete, near complete control. My local 1/4 mile track open in a week or two, and i will have some launch videos on slicks.

I added a 2nd muffler to the car to quite it down some, and i think it killed some of my power and torque down low, i will put it on the dyno to verify, but it feels totaly different now.

Just an update. I put an extra muffler on the to quite it down, and i lost some hp and torqe. I am guessing i am sitting around 250-260.

before 275 whp, pcd, stock j pipe 3 in exhaust small race muffler.
stock clutch slipping
13.48 @ 109 w/ 2.38 60ft

now 250-260 whp, pcd, stock j pipe 3 in exhaust huge magnaflow muffler, and small race muffler, and J and R twin disc
13.05 @ 107 w/ 2.017 60ft

my best 60 of the night was 1.99

This is in a full weight street prelude. Im going to be doign some weight savings to it, and fix the exhuast flow problem, and build a custom intake manifold for it.

With the J and R stand alone coming out, i am hoping to see a little over 300 whp, and break into the 11's with a little weight savings.

This clutch is amazing!

Hi my friend; this is vato from new york; am very happy to see that u got quite a gain from the clutch; have been waiting for your new results for some time now; by the way mr brown himself is coming over to brooklyn to finish my car with that twin disc clutch, brand new stand alone and many many more upgrades; we are shooting at 500 lbs of torque and at least 550bhp and i personally keep my fingers crossed that my fully built engine can withstand it; i will try to post the dyno pulls as soon as i can; wish me luck

By the way i have to say that rodney and his company jandrnextlevelperformance have been amazingly helpful, extremely professional and very patient on this long grueling journey to this very difficult built of my car; without rodney i would never think to push my tl to these extremes; j&r rocks; kudos

Glad to hear about your goals and progress.. Can you please elaborate on here or another thread in detail about the "many other mods" you are referring to. 550whp is noo joke man. Thats some serious power. Very eagerly looking forward to your updates. Do you have an eta on when you expect the build to be complete.

+1

I have seen 405WHP fully built engines pushing 7psi making serious power and loss of traction by not having the ability to properly put down the power. With that power you better be looking into some custom axels.

Good luck and let us all know how it goes. Remember, the higher the numbers really don't mean much because its all about what you can hold/put down.

Rodney is actually coming over to ny in a few days and we are planning to finalize this project within a week or week and a half; as for the mods it is really hard to list all of them right now but if u really wanna get down to details u can always contact mr rodney and he will be more than happy to explain all the details;all i can say at this point is that without fully rebuilding the engine one should not try to get to that much power. In regards to putting down all that power to the ground, i am not worried at all because j&r along with tilton have developed the twin disc clutch application which does miracles on the road and yes it grips
