newb question about cold air intakes

My newb question are of the following:

How much gas mileage will I gain, that is the main reason I will buy it.

Is AEM the best? It sure looks like it from reading posts on this forum.

Will the car sound louder when I idle or will it just be very loud when I just use vtec and put the pedal to the metal, which I rarely do. But in the highways I would do. But I am more of a city driver. Plus I dont like annoying people in my neighborhood.

last question, how much HP and torque gains will I get.

No mileage gain, AEM has the largest diameter tube and is my favorite, won't be louder at idle or anywhere under 3k, 6-8 hp, maybe 4-5 ft lbs tq.

Some people have noticed gains in gas mileage but if anything, it was like a 2-3mpg gain.

AEM is the best, IMO. However, there is no such thing as a best. It is just based on preference. AEM, I believe, is the loudest. The car will not be loud while idling but when you do hit about 4rpms, the noise will increase. If you do happen to floor it, you will hear a nice roar. No need to worry about being annoying unless you plan on flooring it around your neighborhood which I doubt you would do.

Minimal gains in HP; very minimal. Also, I am not sure about torque gains.

Hope this helps.

2 - 3 MPG is a lot. That's 10%.

Yeah, that's pretty significant.

yeah this gains approximately nothing as far as MPG or HP is concerned. it's more of a cool noise.

if you get aem it doesnt... I am sorry but I went from Fujita CAI to AEM... and it is like night and day... see this thread for more specifics

I gained 1-2mpg in the city (14mpg city - better than 15mpg)... no idea for highway as I barely drive highway

here is the thread - https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181974
Fujita VS AEM (and also Injen vs AEM a few posts later)

CONCLUSION... (INJEN = FUJITA) < AEM

I have an Injen intake and I do see an improvement in mileage under tame driving conditions...the problem is that having an intake makes you wanna drive aggressively more often! I think I am getting about the same overall mpg because of the increased mix of aggressive driving.
BTW, I don't have the whistling at low rpm that some have spoken of...just kinda loud around the vtec range (which is hella nice!)

Before the Intake, we were getting (according to a the MID over a few thousand miles) 18 MPG at 21 MPH avg.

I'll have to wait for the mileage to build up and the driving conditions to average out before making a judgement.

Yes you will gain mileage, maybe only 1-3 mpg, but every bit helps. Of course if you are always WOT you won't gain any gas mileage and probably lose mileage.

Yes AEM is great quality and the most popular CAI for the 04+ TL.
