New turbo on my 3rd Gen Type S
What it is everyone!!! A few months ago I had Rodney Brown install his turbo DIY kit on my 07 type s and I wanted to come to the forum and let everyone know how extremely satisfied I have been with it and everything he has done to help me out with all my questions. If anyone wants to know anything about it I am more than happy to fill you in with what I know and how it has been working out for me.
thanks, Chris

cool, i just looked what video i have of it and i got more pictures than anything. all the drive by's and stuff we did was with me driving and on rodneys phone. if you check out http://www.youtube.com/user/2004rodney that video on his home page is just like the only video i have on my phone. we were doing the inlet pipe exhaust blow pre turbo but you can see the intercooler and such. look me up on face book and i have all the pictures of mods and the steps of the turbo install on the "my second baby" album. my name is chris haggit. send a friend request and ill add you so you can check it out

Chris,
Thanks for the pics. And thank you for joining Acurazine to share your experiences with us.
How long have you had the turbo on your TL?
Is your TL a manual trans (6MT)?
If 6MT, is your clutch slipping with the boost?
Do you hit boost often or are you an easy driver?

LMAO, I remember that suitcase full of parts for my build LOL
I picked up Rodney from his hotel and he put a huge suitcase in my trunk when we were going to the shop. I asked wtf is that? He said I brought all your extra parts in my checked luggage. HAHA
I love that placement of the turbo. Sits so flush.
Are you running a filter on there? It looks like you would have enough room to run a pipe to the lower part of the bumper from the turbo inlet
I see a stock motor mount in there. Did you upgrade your mounts?

haha i know the pictures arent all that great, its on my cell phone and that thing is hit and miss. I will upload the pictures off of my actual camera right now and post the link and i will track down a video of me stomping a stock supra that beat me pre turbo. it will probably be awhile before i see that video though. i embarrassed him in front of a lot of his friends . I have the 6 speed and I changed my clutch to a six puck and it hasnt slipped once for me. as far as dyno pulls, nothing yet, I live in po dunk wyoming and the nearest dyno is two hours away and now that it is winter I wont drive that car, mostly because of my tires and now I just dropped the insurance since it is just going to be sitting in my garage untill rodney comes back out in the spring then we will tune it on the dyno and get some good numbers from it. libert--- no i didnt have to change my mounts because of where the inlet comes in under the motor vs. in front where that front mount sits. we had planned on changing them anyway but innovated was about 6 weeks late on getting them to me so we had to do what we did and it has been working just fine for me. As far as driving the car I usually just take it out for races and to cruise around, most of the time I drive it hard haha. as far as gains go it would all be an estimate since I have only pre turbo dyno numbers but I would gues somewhere between 120 whp to 150whp.. like i said just a guess. i know that pre turbo that supra had me by probably about 3 lengths if not more and after it was me with the 3-4 length advatage. Oh yes KN I when I started doing the turbo I had 10k set aside for it and with that and some other small things I wanted to take care of I was about 12 K into it when I was done. thats why Im not looking at it for some months because anytime i do i start spending money H
AHA
Thanks everyone

I'm in Vermont so I am in the same situation as you. I don't drive mine in the winter either and working in an unheated garage in temps as low as -30F is not an option. Natures way of allowing my funds to recover
Your costs are higher than mine but I did the install myself but it is still a lot of money. So many things above the kit alone. But the experience and what I've learned is priceless.
Congrats to Rodney as well for another sale!

thats true KN thankfully mine is heated but Im still using the cold as an excuse not to spend money on it . most of where the above the kit cost came from I had to change my exhaust and I was trying to do too much to it at once when I should had waited and put more thought into it.. oh well, you live and learn.. next step is suspension and then brake upgrade.

you might be able to keep up with most stock sports cars now
also stop bench racing and provide facts
dyno #s and track times before you start guessing
you cant slap a D.I.Y turbo kit and expect things to last or have big hp numbers or track times
your stock axles/pistons/rods/ etc etc is not built to hold boost, its a high compression motor to begin with never the best for boosted applications
the massive intercooler also is way over kill im guessing your around 7 psi ?
also still have the fact of FWD there is no way around it, you will never get any decent times off the stock street tires, add slick's and expect to start breaking things
best bet would be to start with a better platform already turbo and built for it and either RWD or AWD , corvettes, svt cobra's, evo's sti's etc etc
but kudos for trying to be diffrent, best of luck
cant waite to see the results
