Is my friend a dumbass?

So I'm sitting eating lunch telling my friends how I'm getting the ATLP exhaust and the gains and sounds that come with it, when my friend tells me that by simply removing my mid-muffler and resonator and straight-piping it, I'll see pretty much the same gains, at least in terms of sound. Any truth to this?

Any ways, if u will get more of a phart can ricer sound, with removing those, and i think u restrict some air flow.

You won't get the same gains as the ATLP has larger Mandrel Bent piping all around and is designed to make air flow as efficient as possible. Sound tone wise, it will be different as well because of the larger piping, Stromung mufflers, and resonated Tips.

For a budget, removing the resonators should sound pretty good. If it's a little too loud or raspy, put in a smaller than OEM resonator. I used to have the Stage 3 exhaust which is Midmuffler and Resonator swapped for a 12" Dynomax and it was pretty quiet but it sounded badass, G35 like.

You seriously make no sense.

Gains are minimal anyway unless you're FI with high flow or cats deleted. It's mainly a sound and aesthetics mod.

The resonator is just another type of muffler that is in between the 3rd cat and the mufflers to alter the sound.

That made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

How would removing something add restrictions???????

Rasp is a definite possibility.

The resonated tips have kind of a sound dampening design on the inner part. I guess since the exhaust is resonatorless, they put those on to control the noise level to a certain extent.

You can see them here:

Imo, it also helps with drone as the sound vibrations are at the rear-end of the car instead of right underneath, in the middle.

He asked about gains but I did get the resonated tips all wrong.

I did a custom exhaust myself, 2.5" from the 3rd cat to Y-pipe and then 2.25" from there to a pair of magnaflow center to offsets.

I originally had a 14" or so Dynamax resonator and the drone was unbearable.

I replaced it with a huge Magnaflow resonator that looks like a truck muffler, but it toned down the drone but still has a nice sound.
