Moving IAT Sensor on AEM CAI

The instructions that came with my AEM CAI stated that you can mount the IAT sensor directly on the CAI for added power. I attempted to do this, but the hex nut that plugs the spot on the CAI is threaded and the spot on the throttle body where I would move the sensor from is not threaded. I assumed that it is necessary to have the spot on the throttle body plugged, so I left the sensor on the throttle body for now.

Does anyone have any insight? Is it necessary to plug the spot on the throttle body? Is there a different method that has been used to plug the opening?

Any assistance would be appreciated Noob here

The original location of the IAT sensor on the throttle body is threaded.
If yours isn't, can I ask how you got the sensor out?

There is a short & fat bolt (1/4-1/2" diameter and 1/2-3/4" long) and an o-ring that came with your CAI (in the large plastic bag) that get used to plug the original hole. They screw in. Don't over-tighten that bolt. "snug" is sufficient.

Hope this helps some. Let us know what you come up with.

From others that have moved the sensor to the AEM CAI, it did not make that BIG of a difference.. I would not and just leave it where it is.

Weird how it isnt threaded, you sure you removed the whole sensor (including the body) and not just the sensor itself?

Maybe I was just removing the sensor without the body. I will have to look when I get the home. That would make a lot more sense. I just popped the sensor out by gently lifting up and then I just lightly pushed it into the hole on the CAI...even though it was threaded, it slid right in and was snugly held.

I will try to take a look at it when I get home and update when I can. Thanks for the info

As bmeyer said the IAT sensor is definitely threaded in the TB. Then take the plug and o-ring out of the CAI and put it in the TB threaded port.

The only thing it did for me was reduce the gas mileage. I didn't feel any difference in performance.

If you took out the IAT out of the TB and put it on the CAI, what did you use to plug the TB?

That was my problem, there was no way to get the threaded hex nut into the hole on the throttle body, so I couldn't plug the throttle body. So I moved the sensor back.

I might need some additional guidance. I unscrewed a screw that was holding the sensor onto the throttle body and then it just lifted right out. This left a non-threaded hole on the throttle body with a threaded screw hole next to it. I assumed that the unthreaded (bigger) hole was the one that needed to be plugged.

Is there more of a body - like a metal piece - that has to be taken off of the throttle body to be able to move the sensor?

Wrong sensor. This one is on the front-side (towards the grill) of the throttlebody. The sensor has a large ~3/4 inch hex body around the outside of it. IIRC, the sensor is under the top engine cover on the right (standing in front of the grill, looking towards the back of the car)

You must have been taking the top one out?

Pic Here

See the big copper-colored round plug on the front of the throttlebody? The IAT sensor is to the left of that a couple inches on the same face.

Thanks so much...that makes a lot more sense.

I will try to take a look at it this weekend and decide whether I want to move it or not.

Nice looking intake...I opted for the red as well

No problem.
The pic actually isn't mine. Someone else's on AZ here (hope they don't mind I used it!). I went for the powder-coated silver color on my ASM.

The IAT sensor is in the manifold, not the throttle body...

That's correct. I was attempting to go from memory, but it's getting fuzzier as I get older.
