What are the differences? It seems that mid muffler delete is much more popular but I can't find out why.

When you say rear muffler delete your talking about both rear mufflers right? If thats the case then isn't it obvious why the mid muffler is more popular? Removing the two rear mufflers would increase sound by a shit load where as the mid muffler only slightly increases sound.

I just removed my mid muffler and stock resonator and replaced with dynomax resonator. If i were to do it over again, i wouldn't bother with replacing the stock resonator with the dynomax one. Just remove the mid muffler. This is the way this car should have came off the assembly line along with rear 2 piston brembos. haha

Typically called "Stages", removing part of the exhaust will change the sound incrementally. Read up!

I left on the mid muffler and deleted the rears along with a Dynomax res replacing the stock one. The car sounds sick on a cold idle, near silent once warmed up. You can scoot around with almost no sound or past 3500 RPM it screams. Just deleting the mid muffler doesn't make it loud, it'll just make the exhaust actually audible. If you keep cats you could run no mufflers and it still won't be loud.

Does the dynomax make a huge difference over the stock resonator?

Or like mvp said, is it just better to do the mid muffler delete and save some money for some other mod?

if u remove your rear muffler you gain soun(LOTS!!!) if u remove the mid muffler you gain power lol

Just get rid of the middle muffler for now and see how you like it for a while. This turned out to be perfect for me.

mid muffler is a common removal because at the same time, some people remove the stock resonator as well and add an aftermarket part for a deeper tone when accelerating... rears just make your car go BWAAAHHHHHHH

from my experience, I removed mid muff first (stage 1) def had a noticable sound increase but still sounded stock. Then I replaced my stock resonator with a dynomax 24235 res and it sounded almost the exact same as just removing the mid muff. so I wasnt very happy with it. Then I went and replaced the 2 rear muffs with magnaflow 11365 muffs and holy shit does it sound good!! I love the sound now. not loud just nice deep smooth sound. Now after getting use to it I want MOAR lol

Did you start the car up before the mufflers were put on? I'm curious how just a Dynomax res would sound. I don't think it would be too obnoxious with stock cats.

I have the mid muffler delete as well. It made a LITTLE improvement but nothing substantial. I was thinking of replacing the stock resonator with the dynomax as well but I was thinking of removing the 3rd Cat while I was at it. Anyone ever see any difference from doing this?

I'm definitely going to get my mechanic to cut off the mid muffler the next time it's in for service. Hoping my wife won't even know it was done lol.

I had my mid muffler and resonator removedand replaced with a straight pipe. It sounds great except between 2500 - 2900 rpm where its raspy and cheesy sounding. Everywhere else it sounds great. Then I added a K&N cold air induction. Not a long ram because its my daily driver. You wouldn't think the intake would affect how the car sounds but it does. Now at WOT over 4500 RPM the car just sounds damn evil. Still have that cheesy rasp at 2500 to 2900 rpm though.

Anyone know if this set up but installing J pipes makes a difference with the rasp? If so any suggestions on manufacturer, size, and if the high flow cats in the "J" pipes make a difference?

I also have a stage 4 mod on my Type-S. I actually like the rasp sound especially at speed 6th gear the rasp echoes off the jersey wall. Here is a video of a cold start.

I don't get why everybody on here gets so annoyed with a little raspiness. Are you trying to pretend it's not a Honda? I wouldn't call my setup raspy but it's still high pitched. I do prefer a res on this car but I don't have any on my V8 car, any raspiness/burbles sound like eargasms on it.

Correction on the cheesy rasp rpm. It's between 2300 and 2500 RPM. Does the stock exhuast manifolds (J pipes) have cats? I know there is 1 large cat just before the mid muffler and resonator. My next bolt on will be aftermarket "J" pipes. Just not sure on the brand. Can the outlets for aftermarket "J" pipes be larger, therefore enlarging the diameter throught the balance of the car? Do aftermarket "J" pipes have cats? Are they referred to pre-cats?

Agree. Little more ton when I tip into the throttle or when completely on it, rest of the time (like on freeway trips) its very quiet still.

Friend of mine removed the rear mufflers on his turbo Regal GS, actually sounds pretty good. But its also a 4 cylinder turbo so its probably quieter without the rear mufflers than our cars would be.

honestly i have the mid muffler and resonator deleted and I compare it to the sound of a stock 350z or g35... at certain rpm's its a bit funky sounding, but i have never had an exhaust on any car that sounded perfect at every rpm!

thanks for all the responses guys! but i'm still torn between mid or rear delete. I definitely want noticeably audible sound on WOT but keep the silence when cruising.

from the feedback i'm getting it seems like mid delete really doesn't make too much of a difference?

honestly mid muffler and resonator is the perfect amount for me... i wanted to know i was getting on it when i was pushing the go pedal... but since i drive 75 miles round trip for work i wanted silence while cruising... i also took the silencer/resonator out of the stock intake to give it a little more tone and between the intake and exhaust it sounds perfect to me...

keep the stock stuff and if you dont like it then you can have it welded back on!

I've decided I want to get the rear mufflers deleted. What's the price range for this? I don't want to get ripped off.

There are alot of auto shops near where I work all within walking distance so I stopped by one of them this morning but they only had aluminized piping

Cheap enough that you won't care if it rusts out in 5 years. You could just buy some stainless pipe online that's a little longer than the mufflers and bring it to them, 4 cuts total, 4 welds, and new hangers shouldn't be very much at all I paid $40. There's a hanger on the front and back of the muffler, I only put new ones near the tip since there is now way less weight hanging in the back.

I have all my mufflers deleted (mid and 2 rears) got some thicker piping set up for the 2 backs deleted. Sounds pretty good. Always get compliments

Why would the shop want stainless when the average person won't know the difference and will come back in a few years to get it redone?

For the middle section it's 2.25" but 2.5" pipe slides over nicely, rears are 2", I used 2.25".

Still stock resonator? I have the rears gone and a Dynomax res in place of the stock one, I'm thinking about getting rid of the mid muffler too. It's not very loud at all unless you're getting on it but the Dynomax res gives a much more aggressive tone.

I tried the only custom exhaust place near my house and meineke. I'll try and call a place called monro muffler tomorrow to see if they have stainless steel. Are there any chain auto shops that have stainless steel pipe? I know local mom akd pop shops are cheaper but that arent many near my school that I know of (Rochester Institute of Technology)

I had stopped in Monro since it's right around the corner from my house and asked how much to cut the mid muffler off, they looked at me like I was crazy then put it on the lift and the guy said "well it's gonna be at least $100" so I said put my car down no thanks, had a dude I know do it for $20 a muffler (paid him $40 to straight pipe both rears). Probably could have done it myself but I didn't wanna burn a hole in the stock pipes welding it. Stop in a small shop and offer to pay cash. You'll get it done so cheap that even if it isn't stainless you can redo it in a few years cheap.
