I am writing a novel and was wondering how fast can the TL go with all the aftermarket upgrades possible? (educated guesses welcome) I was thinking like 250 or is that impossible
If you want it to be realistic then guestimate 140-150. I did well over what the speedo said in my '02 WRX Stage 4+. When I calculated the mph once I slowed down it was roughly in the 165mph range and still had more in it. However it would have redlined before 200mph for sure.

ok but that is just taking out limiters what about stuff like exhuast and intake and superchargers and nos and all that kinda stuff all the mods you can do is there anyway to actually calculate it like say if you have mods a-z and add the hp gain of all the mods to stock for total new hp and take that with the new weight or something
I highly doubt the 3G TL would top out at 175 mph. The C5 Vette with much better aerodynamics and more power topped out at an ungoverned, non-redline limited 176 mph.
With the governor taken off, I think the 3G TL can do about 165 mph. But it might get a bit unstable at those speeds, though.

So to answer your question, with a crazy modified TL that has a shit ton of aerodynamic work done, it could theoretically go as fast as a jet.
Back to reality, with a heavily modded TL without aerodynamic work, it could probably climb above 170 mph.

so dumping a shitton of cash in mods you could really only add about 20 MPH to your top speed. I understand that cars are designed for differant things and there is only so much you can add on before you have to change the basic design of the car but I just imagined you could add about a 100 cuz you always see all this stuff for do this you add xHP Im more into electronics.

Maybe if the engine was built with low compression pistons (forged internals), ported intake manifold, custom cams, custom valves, valve springs, titanium retainers and a custom big ass turbo kit. Then you may be able to get over 200 but only if the engine isn't redlining. There are several other things you would need as well like 1000cc injectors, fuel/engine management, lots of dyno tune time, and most importantly MONEY. So yes with money almost anything is possible. But like mentioned before you will also need an awesome suspension and tire/wheel set-up.
I was driving from salt lake city to settla, I have hitted about 150 mph. The car feels ok, not very stable, but good enough with the stock shocks and springs. I only AEM CAI installed.
The TL still could go above 150 easily, cause the rpm was like 4500. At top end, a stock TL go a little faster than my stock evo.

Hah, the 1000bhp Bugatti with special aerodynamics quad turbo W12 hit 248. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell that a TL could approach that. I'm sure that at speed it would have lift (rather than downforce). My guess is that given an unlimited budget, you might get a TL up to 200 by sleaving the motor, huge turbo, large qty of boost, custom pistons, crank, yada yada.

so with enough cash and some good mechanics you could have a TL with top seed of 200 of course it would be more cost effective to just buy a car built for speed. So for my book purposes you could have a guy who liked the TL but needed it to have more speed with the cash. so would 200 MPH be a belivable figure.
It's planted! Honestly, before any mods I took a trip up to utah w/ my girlfriend. On the way back down the 15, I was at 147 with the cruise control on. Took all of fifth gear to get there-redlining fifth gear in my car is about that speed, then shift to sixth and set the cruise. RPM's were real high, uncomfortably high (5400, almost 5 1/2), but the car felt very stable.

it really surprized me i wanted to keep going but i was approaching a turn on the freeway wich then i was also surprized by how quick i slowed down to normal speeds
first of all. the original poster is from Italy so it's Km/hr over there.
Now i believe TL is drag limited at about 150+mph. that's about it. that's with magzine tester and laster fifth wheel and all that. i'd like to see/hear if somebody, in the whole world, took a stock over 155mph. i doubt it....downhill, downwind maybe. lol.

you really think you are gonna be able to get up to 180?
There have been a couple of records set with a all motor Civic of like 170+. But talk about seroius aerodynamic work, the whole front end was closed off and sat right on the ground. 160 to 170 would be achievable, but would require some more aerodynamic work on the car. It would start to drag to much. The car does plant on the ground well, but at those speeds there would not be enough torque to over come the downforce. As far as 200 mph in a TL, we won't be able to do that. With enough work, a top speed record car could come close, but it would be alot of work and a complete rework of the tranny.
