Magnaflow Drool!!!

I got a custom Magnaflow exhaust put on on my B-Day last week and everywhere I go I get props, the shop a guy in an '06 Eclipse. I pulled into the dealership today one of the service managers was like "What type of exhaust is that, it sounds beautiful..." a few customers were walking by checking out the blk on blk and the Axis...I stood back and watched. When the service manager opted to go on a test drive with me, many props came out of his mouth... exhaust sounds like a small 8, what type of suspension is this rides great (A-Spec ). I was impressed that he was impressed being that he is in his mid 40's. After the pat on the back I was beaming. On my way home tonight I pulled on an '05 Mustang Gt. At the light he was chekin out the AC and gave "the Nod"...I Love this Car...

There is a sound clip on the form somewhere. I paid $340 installed for the stainless steel. some say it sounds like a G35 or Z

Retained the stock tips...most voted on the forum. Havent had time to take new photos, but soon. mixing the CAI with the intake makes a beastly sound when pushing it.

May I ask who did the custom exhaust for you. Ever since a previous member had this done, I've been entertaining the idea for a while now. Unfortunately I don't know who to inquire about such a job. Care to share info on your auto shop guy?

magnaflow is the way to go. you have a lot of options with all of their products and it both looks great and sounds awesome. im glad you are happy with your system.

Which cans did you get? When I had my 2002 Altima SE, I bought the full Mossy catback exhaust system for it which used the Magnaflow 14829 cans. I then installed a 22X4" Magnaflow resonator to drop the droning by 8 db. This setup sounded great.

Incidently, I hope your TL doesn't sound like a Z. I know, personal preference, but I think they sound like crap. The G35 Coupe isn't too bad.

The shop is Jerl muffler in Riverside
Mufflers 14325 ss.
The initial growl is similar to the G35 from what others have told me, but mellows out after 3k RPM

I have had mine for over 2 1/2 months and I love it, the great thing is my wife does too.

One thing that I didn't do and If I ever build another exhaust I would buy a Magnaflow Y...it only $25.00 and its from Magnaflow

I don't think the resonator changed a thing, I love the way it sounds, I would have a lot more fun with the car if it was a 6mt....but that will come down the road.

Congrats man, I love Magnaflows, my bro's old F-150 Harley Davidson had it and man that was such a beautiful sound. Got a question though, can I do the same thing with my 99 TL? Keep the stock tips and change the Resonator and the Muffler. Also, the HP gains, would there be any in effect?

yeah you can do that, i would put the car up in the air to take a look at what offsets you might need. you might get some hp as well.

I would bet that there are almost no HP or torque gains.. almost none as in felt gains. I seem to recall reading a post that indicated a 6 HP gain with the CompTech exhaust system. I would imagine that is a catback system, though I certainly don't know for sure.

The stock TL exhaust appears to be pretty darned good as is (except that it's too quiet). The best you could hope for would be a new Y pipe connected to a free-flow main cat and really low restriction mufflers and resonator. This would be an expensive venture. You see, you can't install headers on the TL because the stock exhaust manifolds are cast as part of the heads. So since you cannot remove the stock manifolds, you can't use headers.

When I installed the Mossy catback system on my 2002 Altima SE, I already knew what to expect from a similar project car and dynos that were run at each step. That, plus I could use some very accurate gauges for the difference (accurate in the respect that the car would or would not break traction under certain conditions).

The TL engineers did a very good job with both the intake and the exhaust on this car. There just isn't that much left in the bolt-on department for the rodder to extract. So sound quality would be the primary reason for an exhaust swap.

Congrats on the new mod, I wish you could do a sound clip because I too would like one, but I have a few reservations because I too had a Magnaflow on a previous ride with a CAI combo and one thing that got old quick was the "humming" on long rides that no matter how loud I put the stereo I could not drown it out. I know the TL has better sound proofing than my 2K Si did and that may be the difference but once installed it's there for the life of the car ( my muffler guy madrel bent the pipes and welded the resonator and muffler).
Have you noticed any melting of the weather proofing (tar) around the gas tank, mine did and was caused by the hotter Magnaflow vs OEM.

its not going to be on there forever, just keep your stock system and retain the flanges. i dont notice any drone on long trips as long as i keep speed above 65. nothing melting and ive had the mufflers on there for over a year.

I see you didn't read that the muffler guy I took my car to back then chose to cut in front of the flanges and welded the exhaust system from the cat back to the tip, IMHO worked fine, no leaks and the tubing was 2.25" stainless steel ( not polished) but great workmanship.

is there a sag there just curious not bashing..

I must have missed that, where did you write up about your other car. (i hope not on this thread or I can read at all) I cut the flange off when i built a system for my integra, it seemed to make everything easier at the time.

it shouldnt. now if the shop did a horrible install and, for example, your muffler or exhaust tip melted away some of your bumper cover, that wouldnt be covered under any warranty. actually thats a pretty bad example. its not going to void your warranty though you will probably lose the warranty on your exhaust unless you have a cat back system made.

I just had my magnaflow installed yesterday. I had the same resonator and mufflers as everyone else. I have an AT, and man does it DROAN (resonate) from 2200 to 3000rpm. It's great at WOT. Has anyone done anything to make it a bit quieter???

what did you do about the middle muffler, leave it in or remove it?

oh yeah, also i have a 22" resonator...what length is yours? i dont get too much of a drone at all...when i left the middle muffler in there was hardly any noticable drone, only when i was in 6th going under 50 did i hear anything. i removed the mid muffler and it made the drone a little louder. if you have the time play around with different exhaust parts to see if you can eliminate it.

turn up the radio and floor it (j/k). I got the 6, so I just shift. you can ease off the gas a little and the drone starts to diminish

I did a complete cat-back. Removed all stock stuff. I have the 14" resonator and two ss mufflers. I'm going to try an add a mid muffler. has anyone done this? Also the shop tossed my stock exhaust . Because I was going to put the stock mid-muffler back in, but it looks like I'm going to try something else.

I just spoke with a tech guy @ magnaflow, he said that the mufflers are too small for this application, causing the resonance. I guess I'm going to try a 5x8x14" muffler and move one of my mufflers as a mid-muffler. I will post results as soon as it gets done.

what size are your mufflers? when you say 'everyone else' i'm not sure what size that is. i used a really small case because i was worried there was not enough room. i know larger case mufflers fit now...moving one of your current mufflers (regardless of size) where the mid-muffler was is a good idea, that will really soften things up for you.

I believe that they are 4x8x11, part #14362, I was also told to go with a bigger and longer resonator, mine now is 12" long 4" diameter part #14416. I don't want to spend too much $$ just to fix it, when I could of just went w/comptech. What part # is your resonator?

what i would suggest doing so you dont have to buy two new mufflers for the rear is buy the biggest muffler you can fit into the space where the mid-muffler used to be. my resonator part number is 10436.
