Love my '07 TL-S... I want to make it faster
Just picked up my '07 TL-S for Christmas... now I want to make it faster. What are my options? I am looking for maximum return for my money without endangering my warranty or other mechanical components.

I had the previledge of having Randy Pobst (google him) lapping at Virginia International Raceway in my own A4 Quattro. I was in the passenger seat watching him carving corners and esses with relative ease while going 20+mph faster than my best attempt. That's where I realized it's not all about the car. It mostly resides with the driver.
So take the advice and sign up for some high-performance driving classes. Best money I've spent to improve the performance of my car.

It true that Fix-A-Flat would probably kill the TPMS sensor. However, here is the solution that I use.
Air pump resting in it's place in my '06 TL.
Here, you can see the model. It weight just 2.0 pounds. Common brand name, easy to purchase.
Here is a close-up of the UPC number (part number).
Here is the solution in my '02 TL.
The '02 TL pump is bigger than the pump in my '06. I did not weigh this pump, but I suppose it is approx 3 or 3 1/2 pounds.
Just make sure that you do NOT buy a CORDLESS pump. The coordless contains a heavy battery, hence it's name "cordless".

Track experience only helps if you're into carving corners, etc. For straightline acceleration, like on the highway... no amount of classes are going to make your car pull harder... lol
SO,
Plus, you guys have NO idea what his driving abilities are. You don't need lessons from a "pro" to be a good driver. Most of those "pro's" learned from experience, just like the rest of us are capable of doing. For all we know, this guy could be a weekend auto-x'er and drive great!
To answer your question:
I have a TLS and am also looking for ways. I've seen that the AEM Cold Air Intake from an 04+ will fit our car just fine. Also, thermoblock spacers are supposed to help a lot. I'm sure there will be a S/C kit eventually, but that's a ways out.
Keep in mind that ANYTHING you do can possibly jeopardize your warranty. If it's not factory, it's not warrantied... if it's not aftermarket, there's not much HP gain. It's kinda crappy, but I'm sure you know that's how the dealers work. Just gives them an easy out for any repair work that would have been free.

How much power increase can you expect from that CAI, though? Do you need to do anything else to make room for it?
I actually called comptech but they probably won't have an SC for the Type-S any time soon.
Also, what do the spacers do for you?

S/C for the 04-06 TL will bolt right on to the 07-S

cold air should give you some decent gains for the money 7-8 horsepower and with the spacers maybe another 5 hp throw on a underdrive pulley for another 7-8 horses and you should be able to break the 300hp mark

I appreciate all the feedback... even the smart@ss remarks. I can read between the lines to see what you fellas are really getting at. What I understand is that there are many camps and I would have to find one that would work for my needs. I am not keen on losing the luxury so the idea of dropping weight is not very attractive. The mods become a price war and the gains are risky. The driving course... Now there's a novel idea. As to SC or TC... you guys are paving the way for a library of information so I will just stay tuned to the mounds of feedback that is piling up. In the mean time I will just sit back and enjoy my daily driver.
Cheers eveyone who spoke up.

How much do you guys really think that spare tire and engine cover slow you down I've run my G at the strip with an without the 30lb spare. The difference in ET and 1/4 isn't even measureable.
I do agree that carrying an onboard air compressor is a great idea. I've been doing it for 10 years now. I also have a bag of general tools and most importantly, a tire repair kit. That compressor will do you no good if you don't have temporary tire repair kit and the needed tools to install the plug.

Really? So I am guessing someone has done this already? Or is the 3.5 the same dim as the 3.2?
