Leased TL and AEM CAI - SPECIFIC question

Hey all, I have a quick question:

Reading the instructions on the AEM CAI install that I have, it obviously requires drilling to remove some of the OEM hardware.

My TL is leased; are there any expected problems that I would have when I turn the car in??? I.e., $$ deducted from the value, and even the possibility of having to re-install the OEM stuff?

Any other input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would recommend you re-install your OEM stuff when you turn it in anywayz, this way they wont know you tampered with it.... Plus I dont think they'll inspect the car in such detail when you return it, so slap it on... enjoy it, then take it off and sell it when the time comes....

I would totally agree with the above....slap it on and enjoy! Just put the OEM back on before you turn it back in for trade.

Should I even bother putting in the bottom portion where we had to break that one screw thing loose to remove? I think I am speaking of the resonator. Can I just sit the top portion in the engine bay. They prob wont know the difference

I think this is similar to a question I had...how do you reinstall the rivets you drill out if you want to reinstall OEM? Or do they not really serve a functional purpose?

i say just leave it on when you return it. some dealers really do not care especially if you are getting a new vehicle from them. some dealers here in NJ have learned to embrace the bolt on aftermarket products. Park Ave and Curry Acura carry the popular brand names.

plus you can return the car to any dealer you want.

Lease the car, add your CAI, remove prior to turn in and sell it on your own.

screws instead of rivets would be my solution when returning the leased car back to the dealer, and installling these on the resonator or just snap it on back in place, I bet when they "check" the car they are looking for wear, and tear more than "things" done on the car, make sure nothing is hanging loose inside the engine compartment and I think you will be ok

for leased vehicle returns, honda/acura/VW/Audi (as far as i know.... other companies might do the same) hire an outside source to check for damages, wear, or any sort of unusual whatevers with the car. they come to your house, work or wherever you want them to meet you and they will have a check off sheet which will estimate if you need to pay for damages or not. then they will clear you for return. after that you're pretty much home free.

What mugen said is completely correct. I just had Honda come out a few months ago for return on our honda civic. just opened the hood and looked in side to make sure everything was running, and made his observations from the exterior and interior.

I use to make fun of ppl who would do mods to their leased vehicle by saying...I was going to do some improvements to my timeshare... , I see their point and afterwards they would sell the parts and done deal, I did a few mods to my RSX-S and my wife's Element, after I sold them I took off the parts and sold them to ppl who still had these vehicles and wanted the parts.
If you really think about those of us who BUY our cars and ask yourself how long will you keep your TL. Personally I thought the a 2002 RSX-S was going to be my last car and the wife thought the 2003 Element was going to be hers, we both were wrong...

Yea agreed. Have some fun with your car. My point is like having a different car every three years and modding it makes it better. I do not want to be stuck with a car for more than 5 years. I get too axious for something new. Put your cold air in and take it out and sell it on ebay! You get what you pay for for the time you own the car.

I don't know why you guys keep saying that you shouldn't mod a leased car, and saying that it isn't smart.. .most people, not saying all, but most that mod cars don't keep there cars more than 5 years. you mod it, sure... i'm not talking about mods that you can't reverse, but bolt on applications.. are fine.. you buy them... take them off and sell them later.. just like if you were to mod a car you bought and when you don't want the car anymore you take the parts of and sell it seperatly, same concept... and on leased deals... if you want to keep it that bad after modding it you can always buy it off... it's just to keep options open and make it easier... i lease all my cars and mod them. my last accord i modded to hell and it was a show car for Polk Audio. when my lease was coming up i was thinking about keeping it... but i soon got into the newer cars and decided to take off the parts on the accord, sell the parts and get the TL. same deal here. i do most of the work myself, so install cost isn't really and issue, but i don't see anything wrong with modding a leased car.
