what made you decide to go with a short ram?
If you have a CAI with a low intake point, and you drive through a big enough puddle or standing water deep enough to cause the engine to draw a sufficient quantity of water through the intake - and it doesn't take all that much - the engine will hydrolock and odds are it will be seriously damaged if that happens.
This isn't an urban myth. There are plenty of automotive forums out there with plenty of stories to learn from. Google "hydrolocked engine", "hydrolocked intake", "hydrolocked CAI", etc. and you'll find plenty of examples in no time. I came across this fun one with pictures: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=493408
How'd it happen? "...was raining kinda hard...i did hit a larger puddle...just splashed water up and around the filter itself...i've driven in heavy rain for a while (i am in florida where we get hit all the time with crazy thunderstorms) and never had anything like this happen."
No, it's almost certainly not going to happen in the rain or in a carwash. You could probably drive through puddles all day long without a problem too. Of course, puddles are sometimes deeper than they appear, and it's not uncommon to approach standing water that only looks a few inches deep only to wind up in foot deep water somewhere in the middle. It's fine to put the risk into perspective, but don't kick back with a false sense of security believing it cannot happen.

i choose the short ram for many reasons......
better throtle response
safer no worries of hydrolocking and less dirt
more accesable for cleaning
was looking for the sound anyways (short rams give you better sound)
... and is still better then stock
...... would i profit from a heatshield at all would that be better ?? anybody?
