K&N intake

i just installed kandn intake short ram !! the sound is amazing - it sounds like a v8 car. i cant belive it - intake is a must really

one question thoe i removed the whole airbox but didnt remove the hose after it where the resontaor is and so on - i didnt feel like taking off wheel so my question is would i get any more fresh air if i remove it or does it matter at all ...

thanx

i believe the resonator is the main cause of the bottleneck for air. taking this off will bring in cooler air for your short ram.

what made you decide to go with a short ram?

i took my car directly to a carwash right after i got my CAI in. there seems to be a huge misconception about hydrolock in the this forum.

If you have a CAI with a low intake point, and you drive through a big enough puddle or standing water deep enough to cause the engine to draw a sufficient quantity of water through the intake - and it doesn't take all that much - the engine will hydrolock and odds are it will be seriously damaged if that happens.

This isn't an urban myth. There are plenty of automotive forums out there with plenty of stories to learn from. Google "hydrolocked engine", "hydrolocked intake", "hydrolocked CAI", etc. and you'll find plenty of examples in no time. I came across this fun one with pictures: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=493408
How'd it happen? "...was raining kinda hard...i did hit a larger puddle...just splashed water up and around the filter itself...i've driven in heavy rain for a while (i am in florida where we get hit all the time with crazy thunderstorms) and never had anything like this happen."

No, it's almost certainly not going to happen in the rain or in a carwash. You could probably drive through puddles all day long without a problem too. Of course, puddles are sometimes deeper than they appear, and it's not uncommon to approach standing water that only looks a few inches deep only to wind up in foot deep water somewhere in the middle. It's fine to put the risk into perspective, but don't kick back with a false sense of security believing it cannot happen.

i choose the short ram for many reasons......

better throtle response
safer no worries of hydrolocking and less dirt
more accesable for cleaning
was looking for the sound anyways (short rams give you better sound)
... and is still better then stock

...... would i profit from a heatshield at all would that be better ?? anybody?

You guys with the SR intake.... drive around 3 month with it, and go back to stock and drive around. You will notice the difference. =)

Where did you buy the intake and how much was it? Does it only increase the noise?

short ram intake draws hot air from the engine. if you dyno your car you probably lost power. so like jhan said when you put back your stock you will probably feel a performance increase.
