just installed thermoblock spacers

I installed the outlaw engineering thermoblock and throttle body spacers last night. the install was pretty straight forward and easy. It took about an hour maybe a little less. ofter the install my throttle response is 10x's better and I can feel a slight power bump in the lower rpms. I would say that this mod is worth the $100. anyone can do the install with basic tools and it definately helps! when I did the install it was right after I got home from work so the Manifold was real hot. after I installed it, i drove for about 1/2 hour and came back and I could not beleive how much cooler is was. I could actually keep my hand on it for more than 10 seconds.

From the website, they did a dyno on an 02 Acura Tl-Type S

Says it gained 8.6 whp with no other mods done.

That doesn't seem bad for a nice $100 mod

$95 a set plus freight...only bummer was they charged me salestax on the total order....including freight....that kind of sucked. (Outlaw is also in Indiana so I have to pay tax...and paypal rips you on the whole order?)

Yeah well you win some and you lose some! This is a great value for only a $100. This is the way the car should come from the factory as it is!

After reading up on the product....I would agree. Looking forward to getting it installed after it gets here. Even though they are right around the corner....web order is the only way they go to market.

Freight? Can't you just pick them up? And sales tax on the freight? That's BS.

Thats the way it is? Figured....o'well.....not gonna argue over $6.36...just not worth it. $6.00 freight and .36 extra tax......but yep....part of the prob is paypal want to charge in state people tax....but calculates it incorrectly. My guess is Outlaw is a smaller entity and works that gig part time so they have no retail store....100% web order. Keeps costs down significantly if you think about it. You could practically do it from your house.

Hey guys, FWIW I was under the impression that you couldn't use the throttle body spacer with the supercharger. The thermoblock no problem, but the throttle body's positioning would change (although very small) thus causing issues with the mounting of the SC. I recall Mr Steve saying something about this but you guys with the SC or pending purchase of SC may want to confirm. Save time and cash in the long run.....

The material of the new "thermogasket" decreases the amount of heat transfer from head to intake manifold..

a phenolic resin "gasket" (about 8mm thick?) is placed under the intake plenum and between the intake plenum and the throttle body. see item #2.
this helps reduce heat transfer from the cylinder head to the intake plenum. reducing the temperature allows a colder, denser charge of air to enter the combustion chamber. more air allows more fuel. more air + more fuel = horsepower.

there is definately a drivability improvement, and it becomes more noticeable in summer.

i beleive the intake manifold is okay to install but the throttle body spacer throws the piping off on the s/c. I installed it temporarily but I also purchases another stock gasket for when i install the charger.

Are the installation instructions the same as what's in the TL Service Manual for removal of the intake manifold?

Not hard at all. if you can install an intake then you can pretty much install this. all it is, is removing bolts and putting longer ones in place. the hardest part is removing the stock TB gasket. i used a dremel. works like a charm! just make sure you have the intake manifold port plug with a rag and the throttle body coveredto prevent any dust getting in!

OK spacers are in. took me almost 2hrs. manifold's cold alrite. i can put my hand on it forever after 20 mins hard driving no joke. didn't feel no difference driving fast and slow tho . blktl1 owes me lunch. maybe i'm just not sensitive enough. maybe my expectations were set too high. lol.

installation review...
instructions suck ass. diagrams are based on 01-03 TL. lucky i have 04+ TL manual to get exact tq numbers and screw sequences for removal and re-install (they are different). don't try this w/o tq wrench and 04 TL manual IMO. if you strip those aluminum manifold holes it's gonna cost you.

lil disappointed....

Thanks for the info. I hate it when instructions don't match with your situation. My AEM instructions were not real accurate, had to guess on a couple of things. I think I might pass on this mod.

I gotta gree with you. I just installed them last night and I didn't notice anything at all ...Yes it does seem to be cooler though.

And yeah the diagrams were for an 01-03 TL so they weren't exactly accurate but it wasn't terribly difficult. I happen to not have my TQ wrench with me so I didn't do that but I will be doing that within a few days just to make sure.

I mean given that these are really only supposed to add just a couple ponies, I'm sure it will be hard to actually "feel" the difference.

you will notice more throttle response than anything else
