Introducing RV6 V3 Precat Deletes Taking Deposits
PCDs installed yesterday. in the way of power mods, i have PCDs and outlaw spacers(also installed yesterday). car feels much stronger and i'm overall VERY happy.
there is no rasp, but on cold start there is a weird noise from the engine bay (sounds like an E92 M3 on cold start, if anyone knows what i'm talking about) that goes away once things warm up. the exhaust volume is PERFECT as of now. i commute 100 miles a day so anything loud or annoying is unacceptable.
very happy overall..makes me a little power hungry now but i'm concerned a J pipe will ruin the quiet ride the current setup gives me.
install was pretty easy from my perspective..dropped it off in the morning, went to work in my girlfriend's truck, picked it up around 7pm last night. i'm a little spoiled, a very good friend of mine from high school is an acura master tech and the dealership is cool about side jobs. install consisted of basically drop the front sub frame and j-pipe, remove pre cats, install deletes, install subframe and j pipe, align, done.

Our cats actually misfire to warm up faster, so this is the sound you are hearing on a cold start. It goes away within 15 seconds and its not noticeable stock because our exhaust is CARB legal, VERY restrictive and quiet. This noise is normal.
I know that in NJ they only check emissions and since our cars are 95 and newer, they hook up the OBDII port and if you don't throw a cell, you will pass. These shouldn't throw a code unless they are installed wrong. Visual inspections/pipe inspections are a thing of the past. All in all, you should be fine.
Just touching cats is illegal and most/if not all shops will not even touch the cats unless its OEM. I would think they will pass if you have a HF third cat, but just check on the local laws of the cell counts needed. I just wouldn't tell anyone that you changed them and try to put the stock heat shield back on to cover them up.

On a side note I just spoke with Richie, and he said the HFC's will be ready by the end of the month and he's gonna fix the site regarding the price for them cause people have been confused lately.
Yeah you shouldn't have to remove the sub-frame at all. Shark I saw your install pics. Even when I was under my car for the j-pipe install it didn't look like it needed to be removed.

Really thinking about it, but I have a very major personal issue going on that would affect money in a big way. So the spending needs to be stopped for awhile but in the same respect I'm that much closer to finishing the car performance-wise aside from doing the pulley. I already have the cai, j-pipe-exhaust done so what's left besides the cats and a pulley. maybe PnP done but the few that did it aren't saying much for numbers. And right now s/c'ing it is outta budget. Hey also did you ever read my last pm to you cause you never answered back just wondering what you thought about what I said.

to your question, i'll get you an accurate answer on 5/2...getting better testing done 5/1.
do what you gotta do man, the car can wait. but yeah, the last thing i have to get is the UR stock pulley...just waiting to find a good deal on one. s/c is tempting...but i don't want to have to retrofit the CT to fit the type-s...maybe a turbo down the line...?...but i don't want to lose everything i've bought already.

Hey why don't you look the the PnP thread too that may sway you a bit to stay NA. Like I said before depending on the numbers it might be something I do.

A complete S/C kit installed should run around 5k with NO maintenance. A complete Turbo build will run you around 10k-12k with installation/computer/injectors/full 3" exhaust and so on. The S/C should use the 3", but doesn't need it as the TURBO does because the turbo works off of the exhaust.
To be honest everyone loves the turbo over the S/C but its more maintenance and a lot more money. One isn't more reliable than the other, but a s/c won't be pushing boost unless you hit the gas and get out of vacuum which is the case of "hidden power" and less abuse on the motor. Their both great and have their ups and downs, its almost like the thread "difference between TYPE-S and base". That thread basically turned out that the car one owned, was the best and there was no concrete answers to as which one was "better" and they technically are the same car and everyone modifies them to be the same anyway.
They just check for codes. If you install them correct, no code will be thrown and you will be fine. To them if there is no codes, the car is "running perfect".

Ack, you find me a good deal on a comptech and i'm all over it. send me a PM with some more details would you?
cuban, i hear what you're saying. i'm just throwing ideas out there, not sure which route i'll end up taking...gotta do more research.

only with a CEL you will fail NYS joke inspection
5799 for the kit plus install if you cant do it yourself and 300-400 for the tune. Where is this other 4k-6k coming from? Computer (fic) and injectors are included. Its the s/c that has no computer and no injectors.
Fic works fine b.c closed loop tuning is possible. Their new ecu is NOT needed. keep your power levels below/around 400 to the wheels and your stock motor will be fine assuming your tune is right. same logic goes for the s/c . you can argue me all day about that amount of power for the stock J is a bad idea but if you had any idea what Rodney and his guys have been doing with a stock j32 you would be suprised
Running the s/c with the precats is horrible idea anyway. Theres some more money needed. Get precat deletes, might as well get a jpipe too.
so we have a "complete" (whatever that means) s/c kit for 5k. does that include injectors, fic, harness, tune, exhaust, precat deletes, and a complete turbo kit (kit, tune, install) 7k TOPS. I guess its an easy decision for me

+1 for libert. Valid points and proving people wrong
Anyway just got around to getting to the shop and checked out the v3 pcds and they are awesome! Unfortunately I am slammed with work and can't get around to installing it for a few days

My HFC's will be on today if it doesn't rain. Would've been done Friday, but the idiots who did my suspension impacted the damn strut brace nuts and I stripped one of them trying to loosen it. After screwing with it for a couple hours I went to Sears and picked up a set of those sockets that dig into a stripped nut. That did the trick.

Thank you amigo!
This weekend for sure, guys. I had everything loosened up and/or out this past Sunday (rear cat bolts were easy), but hit a snag on the bolts from the race pipe to catback. I was on my back using ramps and those bolts were rusted pretty badly. I'm taking it somewhere with a lift Saturday to get the bolts changed, then doing the install Sunday.

I did my V3 Jpipe on my back...no issues...my jack lifted the car well enough into the aire and I'm blessed with no real rust or crud since I'm in Sofla.
I'm SUPER tempted to jump on this...
