intake silencer round 2
intake silencer round 2
removed my intake silencer and put a k+n cone on factory tube and did not see much of a gain per my gtech.went back and put in a k+n drop in and dremmeld the the factory lid flat in side and went from 6.6 0to60 to 6.25
full cia's are 300 bucks drop in filter 45 and you take the chance of sucking up water.they also are not good to run in the winter time will hurt performance.I have tried them in the past and no matter what popular opinion says you are better with a modified factory box.My car launches the same every time.just shareing my findings if a full cia is what you like knock your selfs out.you will also be surprised how the cia hurts your performance in the winter. Also you can not use a gtech from a roll.

When I first got the TL I did the drop in K&N with the silencer removed and it was basically a CAI. The opening is in the fender well and takes in the cool are from there. I did a Dyno with that done and then again with the CAI and it was a small difference in power. The only thing I didn't do was get a base line run with it bone stock.

I dremeld the upper lid smooth and I opened the bottom under the filter up also.I have also removed the third muffler recently but have not yet had a chance to Gtech but it sounds great.I just used clamps on the tube and got rid of the sping Acura had on there
I will say that the airbox provides better throttle response than a CAI (Cold air intake), personally I'd go with an improved airbox rather than a CAI.
A CAI does, however, provide more power at peak rpm and higher speeds.

CAI isn't all about "the cold air" , its the way the air travels up the air induction system...the velocity it gains from being sucked through the unique shapes and bends.... think about when upen up the air filter box and drive with it open, or simply what you did, but replacing the filter with a higher flow filter...ur motor is breathing easier...same thing happens with an open box...the vaccum created by the motor doesnt have to work extra hard to suck up the air, and its more efficient when the air path is freed up.... thats the difference between a true CAI and the cars STOCK cold air induction system which has a long path full of bends and all kinds of weird shapes till it crashes into the air box losing its flow pattern all over again, and finally making its way through the last piece of wrinkled plastic (i think thats there to create air waves lol) pipe into the TB.
to make it all simple... ur motor loves smooth exhaust piping, leaving the motor...it would appreciate the same thing with the induction system

youre kidding right?!lmfao
i forgot to mention.... i dont base anything on popular opinions...just experience and tech.... believe me, if a CAI hurts my performance during the winter, i wouldn't run it.... if uve experienced anything at all, it would have to be built up moisture in ur CAI filter that would limit the flow of air until it dries up, and another thing is...CAI filter needs to be cleaned/washed or changed more often than a stock air box filter.. CAI filter its exposed to a lot more than a stock airbox filter...all kinds of debris, dust, moisture...that still doesnt make the stock Induction system better. there's downfalls on both if u really wanna compare them...but id rather take a downfall on something that's superior under normal situations.
