installed CAI... what the hell is this breather tube for???

so I installed my CAI recently and just noticed that this tube is just hanging out. Apparently I had stuffed a shop towel underneath it and forgot about it. The car runs fine. I was changing a turn signal bulb when I noticed it. I have had my oil changed since then and they didn't say jack about it. I am not the type to leave something like this and not do something about it or have an answer so I feel incredibly stupid for leaving it this way. WTF?

Can someone help me with this? In the pics it is the tube in the center of the shot. It comes out of the engine block I believe.

Holy shit, WTF was I thinking? I really don't think I did this, maybe the dealer tried to sabotage my work.....

PLEASE HELP ME!

humbly.... thanks.

check where the black hose runs to, from the small piece of metal tubing...and check down below if another black hose fell off and its hanging somewhere...

it looks like it might be the vacuum line that runs to the motor mounts...i think the visible black hose runs underneath the tranny and around into the rear motor mount, and the small metal tubing is what connects to another piece of hose going to the front motor mounts.

i dont know exactly how it routes on the auto car...but i have a feeling thats what it is!

id tell you to start the car and let it run, and put ur finger on that metal tube and check for suction....at the same time, on the back of the intake manifold, there's a vac solenoid switch thats fed from the manifold and from there it runs to the rear mount, T'd from there and comes underneath and runs to the front mount...disconnect the tube feeding the switch, and plug the tube going to the mount, directly on the IM, and check for suction on that metal tube on ur tranny.

those are just a few things to check if its the vac line to the mounts.

Yes---exactly. I don't recall removing anything when I installed my CAI, either. I snapped a pic last night, but it looks just like yours so I never posted it. I'll follow this thread for a bit.

I have a feelig that's a breather for the tranny, or just a simple escape for tranny fluid gasses...anyway I don't mean to mislead u or anything..its mostly ideas and clues to what it could be. In the end you'll have to trace it urself

i'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but i just posted these pictures for another another guy, in a separate thread who was having the same issue. is that the by-pass value you're talking about?

It's a transmission breather tube, every transmission has one. Nothing is supposed to be attached to it. If it severely overheats, this is where it will puke at too. If you plug it, it will start leaking at the axles.

yeah when I checked it out today with the engine running there was a slight pressure coming from the hose.

Thank you IHC! I had a feeling it was supposed to be like that but it just seemed out of place at the time.

Thanks to everyone for helping me on this one.

roflll, i rambled about the vac cause i saw a black hose lol...i had not seen how mount vac line runs in the auto, id suspect the same way tucked on top of the subframe but, couldn't be sure, so thats why i said all the crap about it being a possible vac line lol....and then i look at the pic again, and said tranny breather...then there comes IHC and reconfirms it before Erick went on a vac line hunt lol

Erick....the thing on the pictures is the EVAP....so all is good, nothing to worry about
