Installed the CAI and polished it

All went well per instrictions included and reading here .. was just around 2 hours ..

One thing I did do was polish it out .. The one I got was the polished aluminum but it to me was way to bling bling so I wet sanded it with 2000 then used my PC and a cutting pad with Meguiars #83 DACP followed by Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze on a polishing pad to bring it to more of a matt gloss finish so its fits more with the brushed aluminum leading edge of the hood and the silver in my wheels. ( its called detail )

Once i was happy I used Klasse AIO to clean the surface followed by Klasse SG to seal it.

I tried to take pix but with the flash in the garage it didn't do it justice .. I'll try outside tomorrow.

BTW Meguiars #40 Rubber / Vinyl Conditioner does great on all the engine covers. Not greasy like the other Polydimetalsiloxane resin formula's.

That looks much better than the regular polish finish! It blends in nicely with the other parts of the engine bay and your wheels.

Originally, I wanted the polish, but after seeing pics, it didn't look right to me...too much contrast. I ended up getting silver and painting it flat black.

Do you have the AEM installation instruction? It is on the last page. Optional added power void CARB certification.

Jesstzn,
How well will this hold up( will it dull, or tarnish, or will it stay looking like that without much maintenance)? I really like that look.
what is "2000" that you sanded it with, are you talking 2000 grit sandpaper?
I also think the polished CAI is a little to bling, especially now that I've seen how it can look with a little work done on it.

So far no tarnish at all. I built heat shields for my Passat out of aluminum and did the same process , 2000 wet and polished out with my PC then Klasse AIO followed by Klasse SG to seal/protect it, and after 2 years there was no tarnishing. I don't know if other waxes will perform the same. Klasse is actually a sealant not a wax.
