Installed AEM CAI....throttle feels...delayed?

Maybe i'm just crazy, but after having my CAI installed, I noticed my throttle seems to have a delay when I floor it. Before, it used to jolt up, now it takes like 1-2 seconds to sense a change in pressure applied to the gas pedal....

I may be paranoid though....

I kinda thought the same on my 05TL (I have 06 now and havnt put back on yet) but it seemed a little delayed but once going was nice... Maybe because it has to such the air up that long tube now? I dunno, lol

my theory on this is like backpressure is to an exhaust. if you put on a large exhaust pipe, you lose backpressure. when you lose backpressure, you lose low end power. you lose power from the start. but you gain high end power because it is so free flowing.

the intake is the same, except the lag is a lot less. you lose a slight amount of power very early on in the start and you have to wait for a split second for the engine to get the suction for the full amount of air going through the larger tube. the lag on this is a lot less then an exhaust though. imagine sucking air through a regular straw as fast as you can. now, imagine sucking with the same pressure out of a larger diameter straw. at the very start, it will feel like you are sucking less air out of the larger straw. there is more pressure with the smaller one. after that initial lag, you will get a lot more air out of the larger straw

oh ya, you can fix the delay with an undriven pulley, it will help a lot with throttle repsonse.

Makes sense....Hmmm...I may get the pulley...I donno.

I think i'm going more towards show than go with my TL......I figure once I get 19s (either G-games 99b or Privat Netz), its going to add a ton of weight killing any performance mod I do. Plus its an auto so yeah lol....

i have an auto too. those 19s will kill your gas mileage as well. and it'll slow you down by a lot. the pulley will help to minimize the negative effects

rims eat up your gas. i had about 21mpg on average on the stock 17s and now i'm getting 18-19 mpg on 18s. your 19s may be a bit worse.

Due to how long the intake tube is, there is a lot of turbulence in it. When you open that throttle body up, the airflow takes a bit to get flowing smoothly. This is the bad part about long tube CAIs instead of cold air boxes or short tube intakes with heat-shields. Most of the dynos I have seen for long tubes always lose power on the lower end compared to stop, and you gain some top end power.
