Innovative motor mount install question!
Innovative motor mount install question!
Hey Guys,
I recently purchased a set of innovative motor mounts for my 06 acura tl and I have a question. I have already installed the side mount. Which motor mount is the front and which one is the rear? One of the mounts has a curve in the base and one is straight at the base. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

When I had called IM to ask, I was told by IM that the curved mount goes in the rear.

Anyone thought about just replacing the front engine mount with the Innovative mount?
Some of the discussions on other sites have led me to believe that the front mount fails from the large tension forces placed on it during high torque situations. Once it fails or weakens, the stresses are forced onto the other mounts which fail later.
Some reading I've done has informed me that rubber and urethane mounts are not designed for tension forces, but rather compression forces.
In my opinion, the OEM mounts were not engineered properly for the V6 engines. The torque pulls up on the front mount (tension), which eventually makes it weaken over time and fail. The innovative mounts are urethane bushings pressed into a metal sleeve; when the engine tries to pull on the mount, the bushing is actually seeing a compression force between the center bolt and the top part of the metal sleeve.
My theory is that you could replace just the front mount with the innovative mount in whatever durometer rating you prefer, but also maintain low vehicle vibrations by keeping the other two rubber engine mounts and transmission mount.
My most recent plan was to purchase the NRG engine damper and custom bracket, but now I think I will contact Innovative to see if they would sell the engine mounts individually.

Technically the front and rear mounts are the same. The factory just added a slight variation for whatever reason.
Our XLR8 ETD is a great upgrade for those just want to reduce engine movement. And we just modified the bracket a little more than last time to further improve the damper range of motion.

enjoy the massage chair feel....if you got the 60A the vibrations will get a little easy as the mounts "break in"....
in you got the 75A or +, GOD BLESS YOU LOL....
I posted this before elsewhere, but here it is again because it seems pertinent.
I have the Black 75A. Comparing comments from those that have Red 60A to my 75A, the vibration seems to be the same amount. IMO, these mounts (both 60A and 75A) are "hardcore"... not for the timid. But, the advantages are there if you are into "performance" (and the associated compromises). I am very happy with my 75A mounts.
Although opinions vary on if a break-in is needed, mine were crazy-stiff when I first installed the 75A mounts. The first time I started the car after installing them, I shit in my pants..... and you know that I am *not* timid. I thought to myself, "hell, no damn way, these pos has gotta come back out". My car was shaking like a Top Fuel Dragster.
In retrospect (looking back on it), I did make one mistake during install. I had disconnected the battery for safety. However, I did not perform the "idle relearn" procedure. So, my engine was idling at very low rpm's while the ecu struggled to "learn" on it's own. This low-rpm idle produce much of the vibration. And combined with the new (not broken-in yet) mounts, it vibrated like a Top Fuel Dragster. I mean that in a "bad" way, not in a "cool" way. It was uggggllly.
But, I had wanted solid mounts for many years, long before Innovative decided to make these. So, I gritted my teeth and gave them a chance.
After a few hours of driving, the ecu finally learned how to properly idle. That helped a lot with calming the vibration. It still had intense vibration, but at least it was not like a Top Fuel Dragster any longer.
After approx one week of driving, the mounts became much less harsh. The vibration was very much noticeable thru the car seat (my racing seats). But, that was ok. Sorta like a vibrating Lazy-Boy chair. Just what a person needs while driving home. Seriously, it was sorta relaxing to have vibration thru the seat.
The vibration would visibly rattle the dash and produce rattling sounds from within the dash. If you are bothered by rattle sounds, do not get these mounts (60A or 75A). You will have new rattles that you never had before.
I have had my mounts for 3 years (39 months). At this point in time, the mounts produce a modest amount of vibration, nothing compared to the first few months. Combine that with me learning to ignore the vibration, and the vibration is no longer noticeable to me. However, I *do* still notice the advantages. I love the solid feel that the car has; I love the way that the mounts made the engine sound (transmits audible engine sounds into the cabin -- a good thing); I love the improved traction ( I feel that they contributed to making my sub-5 0-60 run).
Any and all vibration is just while idling. Once the engine comes-up away from idle and/or you starting rolling forward, there is just the slightest vibration. And, you can't feel any vibration once the car is past approx 5 mph.
The mounts are similar to starting a new love relationship. It is a little "rocky" in the beginning, requiring compromises to be developed as each party learns and adapts to each other. But, in the long run, things work out for the better, and you are happy that you endured those early hardships in the beginning.
After living with these 75A mounts for 3 years, I would immediately purchase another set of 75A mounts, without thinking twice, if something happened to my current set.
Actually, I will probably try a 85A or 95A set in the near future just for the fun of it.

I've been lurking for a long time but only recently joined. Inaccurate, you are the man. I'm looking into weight savings for my 6-6 accord after seeing your thread.
I have the 60A and I put 200 miles on them so far. Hopefully they will break in a bit more. The vibes are pretty bad since its a 5AT. My front tranny mount is broken too so I hope that may be contributing to some of the vibrations. If it doesnt break in much more though I think I'm going to have to put the stock rear mount back in since thats the one that created the bad vibes. Did anyone notice a deep groan sound or drone when cruising around 45?

^^^ its been 60K miles since I put those mounts on bro....i really dont remember.....what i remember is the engine feel was a little bit more....i would feel it, i felt i was connected to it.....
more than the mounts breaking in, you will break in LOL....you will get used to it....
but i loved the response i got to the throttle....and i still love it....
the only thing i hate was to explain my dates that nothing is broken in the car and i just have solid mounts which create vibrations

^^^ yeah happened to me many times LOL....
there was this one chic who sat in the car and went "solid motor mounts eh"....ohh that evening was beautiful....she used to work with her dad on his 67 mustang gt500
but yeah....they will break in a little bit more
now if only Innovative mounts would make solid transmission mounts

hahaha that's awesome! Yeah those tranny mounts would be nice. I split both of mine installing this new mounts. The rubber completely separated on both. Fixing that tomorrow. Then I can finally put these mounts to the test!
I'm bringing this thread back from the dead instead of starting a new one. I installed the innovative v2 side mount yesterday and there wasn't anywhere on the mount to attach the ground wire. So I'm wondering what did everyone do with it? I do apologize if this has been answered. I did search around with no luck BTW.
