Hole in AEM CAI

Not sure if this belongs in problems, but I thought I'd post here seeing as it's a bolt on.

I took my bumper off to install some lights and clean out the air filer and noticed this...wtf!

Not sure how long it's been like that, but I'm not impressed either way.
I'm going to try contacting AEM about the warranty coverage.
This happen to anyone else?
I've never been in an accident or raced in a fashion that "may" have placed any stress on the body. How can this happen?

It happens...happened to me. I contacted AEM and sent them pics of the hole and proof of purchase. They sent me a replacement. Just contact their customer service.

That's not a faulty product. It was mounted too tight. The CAI has to be able to move a bit with the torque of the engine. I've had my AEM V1 for almost 2 years and have not had this happen, though other members have so your not alone. The new one will be fine as long as it isn't mounted too tight

happened to me a while back, make sure you take a pic of the soft mount in the correct position. I removed mine before i took the pic to send AEM and they started bitching that i didnt even have it mounted correctly, even though i did.

cheap product . I always wondered if i should have picked up an AEM over my K&N intake but i clearly seen this problem happen to many times with an AEM intake, so im glad i didnt. I transferred my Intake from one to another TL and lost that rubber mount in the process, which should give that head-room for engine movement and such but even though i put the Intake without it and its crazy tight, nothing ever broke off.

I dont even know why people pay $300 for these crappy intakes. You could make one for like $60 in parts even if you cant weld.

I had this same problem and they said this initial intake was for the Accords and since our motors move considerably more it breaks the mount. I called AEM and for the difference in cost i just got the V2 and havent had a problem since

Replacing it for free is the least of their worries. They should be glad people aren't pushing the issue from driving around with unfiltered air getting into the engine.

because the v2 mounts at the bottom near the filter

had mine on my prelude for 4 years and nothing like this happened to it. maybe you need better motor mounts and make sure the intake is secure on the rubber piece so that it moves around a lil bit.

It's common sense that there sould be a flex piece between anything that bolts to the engine and to the frame. The engine moves, the frame does not. There should be a flex hose in there somewhere but that might take away from the pretty looks of the $300 piece of pipe lol.

I still need to find my receipt then I'm giving AEM a call.
I don't mind paying the difference for the V2, just a pain in the ass to have to go through all this because of a flawed design.
I assume the filter remains the same for the V2, only the pipe is different?

not really a lack of design, more like missing 1 little part....the vibration mount that is meant to move without this happening

I was considering the Takata, but I hate spending money on another intake knowing I can get this replaced under warranty. If things fall through or I can't find the receipt then....

the reason actually that this is not an issue with K&N intakes is because it can be converted into a short ram and because of that it has a rubber coupling in the middle which adds another flex point so stuff like that never happens. But you are right its not that pretty
