Hi-Speed's race engine swap

I have been driving the car around to work a few times a week and decided to buy some new parts on my mission to switch over to the Flash Pro. Changed the oil last week after 200-300 miles and it was the darkest oil I have ever seen. The car is driving better and better each time I take it out but, the oil color and usage makes me think the rings are done. I installed my new turbo blanket and it really makes a difference in power and keeping temps down. The new turbo drain is working great, so I felt it was time to put the turbo blanket back on.
I ordered the wrong fitting when I replaced the drain line to the oil pan, so I used the old fitting and its leaking so I bought the correct angle fitting and will be installing it soon. Since the MS3 has the boost controller in it I bought a AEM boost controller and since my wideband is dead I bought a AEM wideband.

Looks like my engine bay.....pulled everything out because of a tranny issue, going to push it into a temporary garage for the winter.
If the winter stays this mild, may be able to get it back together before spring.

Trying to decide if pulling the twin disc clutch and gong to a spec stage 3+ clutch is a good idea before putting everything back together.

I'm going to make some videos, need to make a mount for my phone.

Get it going, I have been terrorizing San Jose with the car in less than perfect form and putting Costco lengths on anything in sight. Too much fun, passing people like their on the brakes.

I'm in for videos, My gopro knockoff (SJCAM 5000) records great video but the audio doesn't pick up any good sounds our cars make only droan, working on external mike so we can hear those sweet exhaust, spooling, blow off sounds

I'm not totally sure, the car is back home minus the engine to sit while the machine shop does there thing. There were ridges in the inside portion ( closest to the middle of the V) of a few cylinders. I might need to use my block and that will add time lost while the Mach shop inspects and rejects the old block. I think to should be done by Jan.

I wonder would have happened if I ran the pistons I bought off the shelf where the offsets would have been incorrect on one bank.

The block has already been dropped off at the machine shop, so I don't have any pics. With the heads removed I felt around in the few cylinders I could to see if I could feel any scaring or groves. It was only in 1 or 2 but, only on the top side closest to the valley. It Would be pretty hard to see in a pic, nothing too dramatic.

So I decided to buy a new block for my engine build. I didn't like the idea of thinning out the cylinders and for $650 I couldn't pass up starting with a brand new block. Next is ordering the Pistons and getting this thing put together.
As far as the $31 shipping I don't see how that is going to work but, I called the dealership and they said they would honor it.

Are you or your builder going to take the time to measure and match the main and rod bearings? That was the longest ordeal for me. After determining if they are tight or loose, then ordering more and repeating the process.
I also asked Andy what skirt clearances he is running and he went with .0035" as well.

I ordered mine from acuraoemparts in Fla, shipped to VT and it cost me something like $65. It comes in a small box strapped to plywood and isn't overly heavy. Mine came in the same truck all of my other goodies come in.

The engine builder will be handling the bearing size measurements, I know that was a huge pain during your build. My plan is to use your piston specs with slightly lower comp.

I would suggest waiting for the block to come in before ordering the pistons. The compression height and valve pocket specs won't change, but the bore size could vary and you should have them measured to make sure your clearances are going to be correct.

Good call, the block should be here next week.

The block arrived. Oemacuraparts honored the $32 shipping and never said another word. The plan is to take it over to have it measured so I can order the pistons. The bores look honed and have clear crosshatching but, I will have it measured just to be sure. So far the block looks perfect and I'm pretty happy with the the price and choice to go new. I can't believe this thing fit into such a small box and is only 70 something LBS, very cool to see it this broken down.

I'd be interested in hearing what your builder uses for specs on bearing and skirt clearances.

As far as the OBD port wire relocation, I'm pretty sure I found the right pins because the car wouldn't start anymore and it did when I pulled it out of the garage. My hope is that once the MS3 is removed that will allow the ecu to be flashed and get to tuning. I would like to keep the knock indicator led and hope it can be separated from the MS3.

Pistons shipped today, should be here 3/3/16. I ended up ordering from Wiseco and using KN/Gerands specs modified to a 9.5 compression ratio. I mentioned that I had Wiseco pistons in the engine when asked why I was rebuilding and the damage to the block. The guy gave me a returning customer discount and everything came to under $900 with coating and heavy duty wrist pins. I'm excited to get moving on this build and get the car back on the road.
