Wink Help!!! NOT completely sure if I need a new clutch.

Hi everyone,my name is Beth

I have a 06 TL 6MT; this is some of the things I have currently on my car. PR2 spacer, 5% tints, RV6 J-Pipe, Pre-cat deletes, 3rd cat deletes, CT catback system, rotora slotted & drilled rotators, K&N CAI, and 18" Enkei's... My question is that I have have my car has been having a problem shifting into 3rd gear, wic started when I purchased the car. I have taken it to different Acura dealers and I was told that it was the way I drive the car; the car has been at the dealer about this problem 4 different times and now when I drive the car it seems to be lagging. When I accelerate the RMP go up considerly and then drops to 3000 RPMs and then is lags. This was not the way the car was running before and just started after getting my axel replaced at the dealer. I have taken it to a mechanic and a transmission shop and they suggested that it could be the clutch. I have considered having an aftermarket clutch installed but I would like to know if any one has any other suggestions as to what the problem could be if not the clutch. I keep the car properly maintained. It only has 53,000 and therefore should not need a clutch this soon, if it is the clutch does anyone has a recommendation for a clutch that is high clutch and would last longer then a normal clutch??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

First off u should change out ur tranmission oil to the GM syncromesh. That should hopefully fix your 3rd gear problem.

As for your clutch, with all those mods I wouldnt be suprise if your clutch went out soon.

Do u mean when u gas it past 3000rpm it slowly goes up? if so its ur clutch might be toast

I had previously driven my car aggressively when testing it. When shifting the gears I could get the RPMs up to almost 5000 before shifting and it was never a problem. Now when I try to race the engine the car first feels like it is going to fly and then it starts lagging and then slowly starting gaining the speed which never occured before. I have tested it by bringing the RPMs to 4000 and then shifting, when I shift the RPMs go down higher and then will start drop and then the car will start accelerating. When I am at 4000 RPMs and then shift it drops to almost 2000, and then fly to 6000 and then drop. Do you have any recommendations for a clutch that can withstand the abuse???

yep..time for new clutch...urs is slipping

I would recommend sticking with OEM since our aftermarket clutches arent to great..

It should be able to handle all ur mods..and i hope u got some innovative engine mounts with that

oh and its not what clutch can abuse it, its how u drive..

sounds like your clutch's turned into butter....

ummmm as far as clutches withstanding abuse...you could pretty much literally destroy any kinda clutch... but there's proper abuse, and then just abuse... proper abuse is beating the shit outta ur car, but never riding or bleeding the clutch, and never full throttle shifting too far off redline.....

now just abuse abuse...is doing all of the above...and that's gonna pretty much kill any clutch.

there's Clutchmasters, Exxedy, Spec clutches

a buddy of mine thought he needed a new one. I check the clutch fluid and it's super low. Filled it up and it wasn't slipping as much

from everything he said, sounds like he beat the crap out of it while it was slipping, regardless of what made it slip....at this point its still toast...if he did all he said he did, even if he's low on fluid and fills it up... wont help much now.

stock clutch sucks...and if aftermarkets arent that great...thats fine...but at least try to get a ceramic replacement disk from one of the aftermarket companies that makes the clutch set for our cars... the organic stock disk just simply doesnt cut it.

forgot to say that, fluid doesnt matter....when the clutch is engaged, its engaged...he;s slipping while in gear....if he can get it in gear, then there's enough fluid...fluid pushes the PP, while when pressure is released, it snaps itself back into place against the disk clamping it to the flywheel... it only works one way...PUSH.

Thanks for the information. I will first try the transmission fluid and I did some research and found a Spec2 clutch. Thanks for the help.

im having almost the same problem with my TL. the gears engage perfectly during normal shifts, but when i shift at over 5500rpms from 1st to 2nd the pedal sticks at about 2inches from the floor and it slowly comes up, when 2nd gear engages, it seems like it slips at first and then it grabs and i feel the pull...it is getting worse every time i race and i do quick pulls n shift over 5500rpms...

last night i raced the new hatch sti, 3rd to 5th gear pull, and i also felt that sticking from 3rd to 4th and, n from 4th to 5th and it lagged when engaging...
i have 100k miles in my car and i think its time to replace the slave cylinder. i know hondas are known for slave cylinders going bad since i had to replace it in my old 95civic n 01 integra.
also, i changed all my fluids at 75k miles, the fluids are still pretty clean and clear,

i just want to make sure that it is the slave cylinder going bad n not my clutch! it would suck if it is my clutch because i would have to drop the subframe n remove the engine.

i am currently changing my clutch right now and i didnt even have to drop the subframe or remove engine. i just pushed tranny to the side, plenty of room

if there really is enough room it would save tons of time!
let me know how it works out for you!
